I think you have a pretty good chance!
I live in IL near chicago and I always hear about the school.
I am also a transfer applicant to many schools for next fall but I am not considering UChicago. First reason is because UC is well known for its heavy workload. I hear that it is very hard to get A's in most classes. Also, the area which the UC is located has been recently dominated by the black community. No offence to any black or other races, but generally people think it is not a good place to live for several years unless you stay in the campus.
Because I am considering graduate school after I graduate, I don't want to take risks of getting less than good grades.
But if you are a junior transfer student and think you can handle it, UChicago is a nice place to consider.
Good Luck!!

I think you have quite solid chances.
Chicago is a very self selective school, and though really tend to look at intellectual curiousity.
I will also be applying as a transfer.
Best of luck -

Hyde park isn't the nicest area. It's not really dangerous or have a gang problem, but it is I guess you would say lower class. a bit run down etc...

Hyde Park is a great place that ALL races can live without crime problems - blacks, Hispanics, and whites all live there mostly without racism or violence. The problem is the surrounding neighborhoods, especially Englewood, are VERY poor 99% black communities that are very crime-filled. That's where any of the violence usually comes from - someone was robbing UChi students that lived on 69TH street - 10 blocks south of Hyde Park in Englewood.
