Uchicago v. Johns Hopkins v. Northwestern v. NYU v. a couple more :)

For anyone that would like to help me, I am trying to make the difficult decision of choosing where I want to spend my next 1460 days (4 years) at!

I am choosing between UChicago, JHU, Northwestern, NYU, University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, and UMKC Med School (6 year BA/MD program). I am very certain that I want to go into medicine.

I was also waitlisted at Washu, Rice, and Dartmouth.

I personally favor UChicago a tad more, but am still deciding. The main benefit for going to my public university would be that I could go for $5000 or less, because of my merit scholarships. The rest are about the same cost...$60000.

I know that I will make the final decision based on where I want to go, but do you guys have advice, pros/cons, or suggestions?

Personally:
Northwestern
Chicago
JHU

not going to college
NYU

I say UChicago, but that’s just me personally.

In all honesty - and I say this as someone who is for sure going to UChicago next fall and know a fair amount of current and former students there - I wouldn’t go there if you are hellbent on becoming a doctor. Does Chicago have excellent science programs? Yes. But it’s also really hard to get a good GPA in one of those programs, and GPA is one of the most crucial aspects of a med school application. Yes, med programs know that Chicago grades tougher than its peers but the GPA boost is still only supposed to be around 0.1, and for this reason you’d be less likely to get into the most competitive medical programs.

Personally - and take this with a grain of salt, since I’m looking into humanities and only applied to NYU out of the schools you listed - I would go to Johns Hopkins if you want a prestige school to get into a top medical program. At the same time, perhaps it would not be a bad idea to go to one of the public schools that are offering you scholarship if you know that you could distinguish yourself there more easily. I’d ask around some more before making a decision.
