GUYS IM FREAKING OUT. So I took three takes for my uchicago video profile (you know as a perfectionist does) and uploaded it before the application deadline. They just turned on the application checklist yesterday so I decided to go through my application and realized that, like the idiot i am, I UPLOADED THE WRONG VERSION OF THE VIDEO (THE ONE I UPLOADED WAS THE HORRIBLY BAD ONE). I instantly deleted it and uploaded the correct one today, NOVEMBER 17th (the deadline as three weeks ago).
I want to make sure that this is okay as it says on the website that they will continue accepting missing materials till november 22nd with no penalty. But it also says that anything uploaded will be automatically submitted to the admissions.
I instantly emailed the admissions about this, but I want to make sure that I did not ruin my application in any way. (PLEASE TELL ME IM JUST OVERREACTING)
This is just one small part of your overall application, so I can’t imagine just a bad “take” will impact much. You’ve done what you can to fix it so at this point I wouldn’t worry about it.
My daughter recently contacted the admissions office about a mix up with her application materials as well. My recommendation is to call rather than email. She finally did that after a week of not receiving an email reply. In her case, the high school guidance office had sent all three teacher recommendations they had on file for her rather than just the two she requested UChicago receive. Not a terrible mistake as I’m sure they all say good things but it wasn’t her intention and she wanted to respect UChicago’s request not to send multiple letters unless they said something unique. When she called, admissions said nothing could be deleted from her file but they could note which letters she wanted to be considered. I’m guessing they can do something similar with the videos but I would definitely call as soon as you can next week. Good luck!
@CrazyCatMama The problem is I’m an international student so directly calling them isn’t as easy for me. I’ll wait and see if they respond
The video I accidentally sent in wasn’t horrible per se, it just didn’t feel natural and some parts were really akward and didn’t add much to my application. The final video I recorded though was amazing, it tied all my application together and I was actually excited about it. I feel really stupid for this one mistake because admissions as an international student to a competitive school is already cutthroat, I’m just worried that this tiny mistake could impact my application.
Thank you though! I emailed both the admissions and regional counselor so one of them is bound to respond at some point, and if they don’t maybe I’ll find a way to call them.
@lolohapp123 I understand. Hopefully you’ll have better luck with an email reply. Good idea to contact both regular admissions and your regional admissions officer!
Where did you find this Nov 22 date on the website?
@2a1ndebate The November 22nd date is included in a message when you log into your UChicago account:
"If you are missing documents in your checklist, there is no need to worry! We are happy to continue accepting replacements for missing material by email at collegeadmissions@uchicago.edu, physical mail, or fax at 773-702-0661, 773.702.4199, or 773.834.5297. You may also upload UChicago Supplements or Early Decision Agreements in the Uploads section of your UChicago Account.
We would still like to consider your application, so please ensure the missing materials arrive to our office by 5 p.m. CST on Friday, November 22. We want to read your application and promise that there are no penalties in our review process for late materials!"
Did you guys just upload directly to your U Chicago account? Do you get that after you apply? This is my first app and I am not sure if I am to upload my video after I submit the common app and then will a UC account be sent to me? Thanks for any help!
@imogenr I just uploaded mine after I applied. They sent me an email with my account after I submitted the Common App. Good Luck!! (I just got admitted EA, so excited!! If you need any help with you app let me know :D)
