UChicago VS WashU VS William and Mary

So I've been accepted to UChicago early action, and just today got in WashU and W&M (with a full ride + priority housing). UChicago actually offered more than twice as much aid as W&M but still ends up costing 25K more. WashU didn't offer any aid yet, but will in a few days. Money isn't a big issue for my family, they are willing to pay for UChicago, but it still matters. I want to study something related to science (probably bio or physics), and possibly be premed. From what I read, WashU has better bio/premed program, UChicago has better physics/math, and UChicago is ranked 9th in the world and 5th in the US, and then there's W&M which is free.. I prefer big cities so Chicago > W&M in that sense, but the only uni of the 3 I visited was WashU and I loved it! Any thoughts on where I should go? I'm leaning heavily on UChicago now. Oh and for WashU I got in their engineering school (so I'd do biomedical engineering). Thanks!

screenname14va, if I was you I would choose WashU. I visited both UChicago and WashU and I enjoyed both campuses, but I felt more comfortable at WashU, maybe because of the beautiful surrounding area. I decided against applying to UChicago and I was accepted into WashU a couple days ago. Since money is not too much of an issue for you, I would cross W&M off your list. I think you should consider which science discipline you enjoy more (biology or physics) and base your choice off that. Best of luck in the upcoming months as you decide where to attend!

Have you visited UChicago? I would recommend doing that before making the decision. Make sure you spend a t least a night so you get a good feel for the place. You already know you love WashU so you’ve one in the bank already. Good luck to you and congratulations.

If you’re considering any Engineeering, let alone BME, WUSTL comes out on top. The vibe at all 3 schools you listed is different, and I don’t think you’d go wrong at any of the schools. Only you can tell how you fit in and how the atmosphere is. Good luck- I’d choose WUSTL, but I say that as my son goes there and LOVES it!!!

They are all amazing choices. W&M is not urban if that is really important to you. It’s in a darling tourist town, but not urban.

I haven’t visited UChicago yet but I will in three weeks. Crossed W&M off my list so it’s between WashU and UChicago now! If I get in Yale next week, that’ll make the decision easier lol, but if I don’t I’m almost certain I’ll chose UChicago for the location (not immediate surrounding area of course but downtown Chicago), more liberal arts based curriculum (not sure why I applied to WUSTL’s engineering… I guess cuz with my math/science grades and test scores I thought it’d increase my chance of getting in), and I just feel more excited about it (probably because I got in months earlier). Plus my two best friends are going there. Anyways, giving up WUSTL will not be easy, and the earlier I commit to UofC the greater chance I have at getting my preferred housing areas, but I might wait until after visiting to commit, just to be sure I’m making the right choice. Thanks for the input!

You should visit all schools again to see which you like the best. And if you like the UoC core curriculum, it is a very good choice. There is nothing wrong with these three, your choice will be good for anyone of them. If you like country, W&M, if you like rock and roll, …

As you may know, UoC had just started a Molecular Engineering track.
