UChicago vs Yale Early Admission

I'm an international student who needs A LOT of financial aid. I intend to major in Business/Economics and maybe I'll also major/minor in International Relations/Foreign Language/Film Studies/Linguistics.

I know they both hard to get in, but it's all or nothing for me though, so I don't think I'd apply for less selective colleges for early admission cycle because they mostly don't give full demonstrated need or they don't allow international students to apply for early admission. So which one do you think? Or do you have any other suggestions/advice?

Thanks a lot for the help.

While they are both generous with regards to financial aid, only Yale is need-blind to international students. As colleges generally tend to be a bit more stingy during ED, I would go with Yale so that you’ll be treated like an American applicant.

UChicago is not need-blind to international students and I have heard that they are actually quite stingy with financial aid. However, you are aware that Harvard and Princeton are bringing back early action, right? Harvard, Princeton, and Yale are all need-blind for international students.

You can apply to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT (all early action), or Dartmouth (early decision) and they will not consider your ability to pay during admissions.

You can also consider applying to Amherst as they too are need blind for international students.

Yes I’m aware that Harvard and Princeton bringing back their early admission, but they don’t have the major/minor I want, although I’m also aware that my choice of major/minor might change. For now I’m still heavily considering to apply to UChicago/Yale for early admission though.

International students can’t apply to MIT for early action unless they’re permanent residents, and I’m not =(

Do any of you know what’s the acceptance rate for international students during early admission?

UChicago doesn’t admit aid-seeking internationals EA (that’s what I was told when I contacted them back in the fall) because the financial resources they’ve allotted for internationals are so limited that they prefer to consider all internationals applying for aid at the same time. If you apply to UChicago EA, your application will be deferred without review. (Again, that’s what I inferred from UChicago’s statement; this policy may change in the future, but I doubt it.)

Apply to Yale SCEA, then UChicago RD if you get deferred or rejected from Yale.
