I recently got waitlisted from my top choice, Uchicago. Although I am kind of disappointed, there are a ton of other schools that I applied to that I am a bit more optimistic about, seeing as how I didn't get outright rejected (meaning I may have some worth after all :D). I know that UChicago's acceptance rate is supposed to be really low this year, and I was wondering if my waitlist at Uchicago would warrant optimism for my other schools. For example, if not accepted off the waitlist, I would love to go to Carnegie Mellon, Notre Dame, Northwestern, Rice, or Johns Hopkins. Does my waitlist status at Chicago help pinpoint my chances for any of these schools? Does CC think that there are any colleges on my list that I am very likely to get into? Just looking for signs :)

Different schools value different things more or less then others. It is impossible to speak of your chances without knowing your stats/ECs/quality of essays/recommendations. For example UChicago puts a lot of weight on the essay, a good essay could compensate for a less then stellar other part of the application. But some the schools on your list value things like test scores much more then essays, so really your chances would be lower at those schools.

Anecdotally speaking, UChicago has some of the least predictable admissions policies of any top tier college I’ve observed. I’ve seen tippy top students who get into numerous top tier colleges get rejected and kids I wouldn’t expect to get in. You still have a good chance at other schools.

hopebrinn13, your post helps keep my hope – waitlisted both at UChicago and WSTL and concerned if this reflects decisions tba from Duke Brown Dartmouth Cornell. SAT 2200, GPA 4.0, ECs only two but same for all 4 highsch yrs, leadership in both, ranked in State in one and Ranked nationally in the other. Volunteer hrs & qaulity v good. Invested time thought for essays. One wiatlist a week not doing good for morale for now.
