UChicago Waitlist class of 2023 thread

Will everyone get a notification today?

no idea

Gap year agreement questions: The notification says provisional offer of admission to class of 2024 and the agreement states that you will withdraw from any other deferments or acceptances. We don’t see a deadline for responding anywhere. Has anyone heard? We have to wait for financial aid letter before deciding. And as a provisional offer, what could be the potential reasons for rescinding? (Obviously, committing a major crime or failing classes, but what if grades dropped a little from overall GPA?) AO said official offer would be made July 2. So thrilled for the opportunity but it is quite the roller coaster. For reference, midwestern male, no alumni or donor connections, strong candidate, would require financial aid. Already planning on gap year and had already made deferment plans with another school before the May 1 deadline.

Just got my portal updated i did not get in…Congrats to everyone who got in!

yeah, it’s okay though. We will all end up somewhere we love!

Got an email around 3 saying they could not offer me a spot but also did not send a LOCI so figures! Good luck to everyone on their future plans and congratulations to all!

@TravelMom402 - provisional until final transcript sent, most likely. You should call to clarify that. Do they mention final transcript anywhere?

Add: no worries if grades drop a little. They expect a bit of senior slide. Same rules apply as for those entering this fall. They aren’t going to string him along after he withdraws his place elsewhere so there shouldn’t be any worries. Oh - and “provisional” probably refers to the fact that he can only be enrolled at just one one uni. at any given time so he needs to withdraw wherever he was scheduled to matriculate. I’d do that as soon as my enrollment at UChicago is confirmed.

Is the gap year option closed too?

I got rejected today too, and @tbyrxx yes the gap year option is closed for all those who received the rejection letter. I asked my AO and guidance counselor and was told that if Uchicago is planning on taking you for the gap year you will not get the portal update. Apparently if you did not get a portal update you should be expecting a call sometime in the next few days as it means you got in… But technically the gap year is not yet closed for those who did not get a notification…

@philosophystress sorry to hear that :frowning: my ao never responded to me

It’s okay, I am actually really happy with the school I committed too so it is fine. Plus a kid at my school had already gotten off so I knew my chances were already so slim! Best of luck to you!

@philosophystress Thanks, same to you!

@philosophystress Are you sure that we’ll get a call or email for the gap year option if we didn’t get a portal update? Did the AO clearly point that out?

My AO said that those who received portal updates are no longer being considered for either the class of 2024 or 2023. They usually keep some students on throughout the summer, so if you have not gotten a notification you are still being considered (so you are probably one of their tops to bring off of the waitlist). They might be rolling out the rejections though…

Does anyone know when will the waitlist officially conclude? I haven’t received a rejection letter yet but neither have I received a call/email informing me of my acceptance. From what I’ve heard, this either means being contacted soon or being one of the tops on the waitlist to be considered in case some decline their offers.

D’s friend sent in her deposit a few weeks ago, but has since changed her mind. Hopefully that’s one more spot that’s opens up for someone on the WL.

I am not certain the waitlist ever “officially conclude{s},” at least not before September. At various points (starting already) the waitlist will be pared down, with some of the people on it notified that they will no longer be considered. But they always keep some number of files open for “summer melt.” Kids who have deposited get off the waitlist at colleges they prefer, or decide to take a gap year, or decide not to go to college yet, or get sick . . . . There can be one or two people taken off the waitlist any time.

Edited

Has anyone who didn’t receive a rejection on their portal heard back yet?

I guess no one is really checking this thread anymore because almost everybody received their decision. What’s the deal for students who neither received a rejection nor an acceptance? Will this last throughout the summer? I chose to stay on the waitlist for both 2023 and 2024.
