UChicago, WashU, or Johns Hopkins?

My friend is having a hard time trying to decide between UChicago, WashU, and Johns Hopkins. She is interested in Physics/Engineering and is more concerned about how driven the students are academically rather than what the the social scenes are like at each school. She has a very competitive nature and could do well in a cutthroat environment. She is coming from a small, private high school and wants to live in a more urban area if possible. Research opportunities, internships, etc. are very important, as well as job recruiting after graduation. Which of these schools would be the best fit for her and why?

She really appreciates all the feedback
Thanks!

*I also posted this question on the boards for the other two schools as well.

If she is interested in engineering, she can cross UC off the list.

While many students go into engineering after undergrad at UChicago, there is no engineering major so this could could be a deciding factor. Besides that, Uchicago would fit her well (it’s not a cutthroat atmosphere btw).

Uchicago students are very academically driven. Not so much in a competitive sense, but more out of a genuine interest in the material and an actual love of learning (despite what people say during finals week!).

But anyways, let her know that UC doesn’t offer an engineering major. That is something your friend definitely needs to know.

Your friend should know, however, that UChicago does offer a physics major. Our physics department is phenomenal (considered top 5) and the kids I’ve known that are physics majors have always had great things to say about it, despite how difficult it may be.
