UChicago?

How are admission rates at University of Chicago? How is the financial Aid state for Indian internationals? Also, how is their Engineering program?

And, how are chances for the Odyssey Scholarship, for internationals?

Also, how many CCers have been there?

Thanks!

Ooh ooh. I would love to know the financial aid provided to the Indian internations!

^ I think DarthSpawnus from Bangladesh got in this year. You might want to send him a PM. I am told that they are very stingy.

As far as I know, there is no engineering program at undergraduate level.

ChubbyCheeks is correct. UChicago could be very much compared to CMU when you talk about providing aid to intls. In fact, I had a friend admitted to the school this year, but she decided to go to another top school that was willing to give her aid and even have lower tuition.
UChicago though maintains great focus in preparing future researchers, so if you are really interested, you might be happy there.

Ok. Thanks for the info!

Have any ideas about which other colleges might fit my needs? As far as you can see… :)

@liveulife:

Which college is she going to?

UVA, but that is because of the lower instate tuition and a small scholarship on the side. This is better than 40k+/year I guess (almost 20k difference).

Ok, Thanks

No engineering. Abysmal aid for internationals. Avoid applying at all costs if you need any aid.

Thanks for the info!

I figured; and considering how they’re need-sensitive…

Financial aid for internationals at UChicago is calculated the same way as it is for domestic students.

UChicago meets 100% of need for international applicants. The amount a student receives will likely be close to the same amount as any other top school that meets 100% of need, except for maybe HYP. The twist is that UChicago is not need-blind in selecting international applicants, so needing a ton of aid will hurt your application. UChicago has a great FA program though, so your need should not hinder your application too much. Please do not listen to collegechica7, she is an awful UChicago basher and serious ■■■■■. She fights hard to make UChicago seem awful, do not listen to a word she says.

But it’s limited and rare?

Kk

Edit:

Kk —>

Know any affordable collges that offer pod CS Programs?

Thanks.

Know any affordable collges that offer good CS Programs?

Thanks.

@pagrok-

Really? I think ill look into U Chicago again; I had taken it off my list after the replies came in on this thread. Thanks, for the info!

You’re welcome. I am going off the assumption that international students are treated with equal FA resources as traditional applicants, so UChicago is no slouch with FA but is surpassed by some other top schools in giving out aid. You can find aid info on the UChicago website, it will confirm that UChicago meets 100% of need and outlines what it means for UChicago to not be need-blind. Please if you have any questions check the website or contact UChicago, don’t simply blindly trust anonymous people on CC who might have a vendetta against the school, or might love the schools and sugar coat their responses (which hopefully I didn’t do too much of).

@pagrok -

No, I had read the site before posting here; however, in order to confirm number of awards and FA amount on average and COA, I refer a university’s Common Data Set - Sections G & H. However, UChicago doesn’t publish a CDS, so I resorted to CC. Turns out it wasn’t the response I was expecting.

Yeah, I read about how its need-sensitive for Internationals, but once accepted, they cover 100% demonstrated need.

Also, how hard is it to get in, compared to the Ivy league? - general, not specifically internationals…

Thanks!

@PAGRok is correct in posting his response about UChicago’s aid. I would never give responses without reading, but having gotten through admissions, I can tell you that almost any top school will promise they’ll meet your aid once you become accepted. The problem is that once you’re admitted, you may still have to make a good amount of contributions. I don’t think that UChicago’s aid is amazing but it is alright. Here are responses of people who have experienced admissions and be sure to know that they are domestic students/parents: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-chicago/108996-uchicago-scholarships-financial-aid.html</a>
Again, I would say that if you apply, don’t be overconfident with what has been written on their website. Things become a little rocky when you dig deeper. But I recommend that you apply if you like the curriculum they offer for your field, as I highly respect its research system.

Hi!

Ok, thanks!

Also, are there any colleges you think I should be applying to - affordable, strong CS Program offering ones?

Thanks?

UChicago’s aceptance rate for 2012 was higher than all of the Ivies except Cornell, but it is probably as “selective” as most of the Ivies.
