Uci acceptance

It seems to me that the non-Tappers that got in were “no brainers”, people that have 4.0s or close to.

I have survey question:

How many of you people genuinely believe that those who have yet to hear from UCI and are in decent standing still have a shot of getting in? That all hope is not lost?

Also, does anyone know what was the last day that UCI gave out acceptances to last year’s applicants? Was the very last day reversed for just notifying people of rejections?

I’m a 3.7 poli-sci major. I’ve already seen 3.4s getting in for my major. I’ve finished all prereqs, my essays were good, and I have decent ECs. Yes, I think I have a good shot. I honestly believe they’re just backlogged and began late, so I for one refuse to lose hope.

as justin bieber would say, never say neverrrrrrrrr

There is no need to worry. There are tons of people who haven’t heard yet.

That was just for swisscheese’s “survey” haha. But yeah, I’m not worrying yet, and none of you should either.

I’m trying my best not to worry, but I’m an engineering major and every engineering major that I know of at my community college has already heard from UCI besides myself.

@swisscheese What are your stats, if you don’t mind my asking? And have you finished the required prerequisites?

Major: Bioengineering (non-impacted major)
GPA: 3.5
TAG/IGETC: done, will be finished with all of that by the end of this spring semester.
Extra Currics: Math tutor at the on campus math lab for almost 1.5 years, Volunteer at hospital since I was ~15 (turning 20 soon)
Essays: on a scale of 1-10 I’d say there ~9.5 (I started working on them last summer)

Ive finished almost all of my prereqs except for Comp Sci and O-Chem.
How about you??

@melaniedear

You can send in SIRs anyway. You just have to make a few phone calls to cancel and make up some story.

Not really nervous anymore, got into my no. 1 UCD this Wednesday. While having UCI as a choice would be nice, and UCSD would be awesome, neither of these schools can compete with the internships that Davis offers about 30 min from the state capitol.

Major : Poly Sci
GPA: 2.94
No Tag
IGETC
AA in Social Sciences coming this summer

Extra Goodies: Worked as a major political organizer for a national political group.

UCSB - X
UCSC - X
UCR -
UCM -
UCD -
UCI - Waiting
UCSD - Waiting

Well I’m no counselor, so don’t count on my advice, but I’d say you have a pretty good shot. Are comp sci and o-chem required for you?

Major: Political science.
GPA: ~3.7
IGETC: Done by the end of spring. No TAG.
ECs: Sporadic volunteering at 3 or 4 different organizations, president of my school theatre troupe, ukulele playing. Nothing particularly cool.
Essays: No idea. lol. I can’t judge my own essays.

There are no required prereqs for poli-sci. Out of the recommended ones, I’m still missing comp sci and stats. But from what I understand that shouldn’t be a big deal.

Yeah, they are required. On assist it does not say that they must be completed prior to transfer so I wasn’t all too concerned about finishing them up. But I suppose those who chose to finish them must be in better standing than me in terms of the number of prereqs completed.

You know, I believe also that I have a decent shot at the moment, but to be honest I can’t trust UCI b/c they rejected me when I was in high school when my stats were nearly perfect (above 4.0 weighted GPA, ***** load of APs, lots of extra currics, good essays…) I was accepted to UCSD but not irvine! (didn’t go to UCSD b/c of financial situation…)

So I just don’t trust the admissions officers at UCI… :(

One off-topic question here: Do any of you guys remember for the November’s application, did the UCI asked for the alternative major? Because I just checked my status and it said alternative was unaffiliated undeclared. I know I did put my alternative major for UCSD since my major was impacted so they required me to put in a non-impacted major. Did UCI asked it as well? If they did then I am screwed.

@swisscheese It’s really odd that you got rejected out of high school, but then again, I think the bar is considerably higher for high school students, especially with the weighted GPAs. I don’t really know anything about the admissions process out of HS because I went straight to a CCC and didn’t apply anywhere.

@KTran I don’t think you need an alternative major, as long as you’re being considered for your first choice. But they did ask.

I’m Bioengineering too but… the Premed one cuz regular Bioeng had some diff pre-reqs.
~3.7
IGETC done. I’m missing Comp Sci, Linear Alg (inished all my lower div classes - genchem/ochem/bio/physics/calc3)

My CC offers Lin Alg over the summer and so does UCI so I hope that doesn’t screw me over!

And Comp Sci isn’t a prereq for many of the BME classes so I think it’s just a plus if someone had it done :)

@melaniedear So they did asked. The reason I asked because my gpa is very low for my major which is ME so I thought I could put down other major as well but it probably not gonna matter since even my alternative choice is still within Engineering. But it does matter for schools like UCSD since ME is impacted at UCSD.

i just got waitlisted in uc davis animal science program. i have a pretty low gpa but a lot of EC under my belt. no tag. my gpa is a 3.2 and i know its lows but my cc is known for having one of the top science programs so i guess that helps me a bit. i applied to uci for bio sciences. a lot of my friends heard back. sooooo idk about my chances

jensiu: I am applying the same major as urs, little higher gpa, 3.3~3.4. I am still waiting too, good luck.

I know I shouldn’t be asking but does UCI release their rejection letters the last week?Looks like most UC’s have given out decisions(exceptions are LA and Cal).
