Out of state students bring in more money, which schools need if the state doesn’t provide them enough money. That’s a problem with the state.
@Gumbymom My S applied for a major and an alternate in ICS. he was accepted into a different major, in ICS, that he isnt interested in. Does that mean he was rejected for his 1st and 2nd choices?
We still haven’t heard from them. Portal still has reviewing app.
In state app.
@3calboys: That is unusual for UCI to admit him to a major not listed on his application. Which major was he admitted into in ICS?
@Gumbymom He applied 1st data science and 2nd computer science. He got accepted to informatics.
@3calboys Hmmm interesting, i also applied Data Science first choice and CS second choice but haven’t received a decision yet
@3calboys. Maybe UCI’s reasoning is that he could switch majors within ICS easier than as Undeclared. Based on my limited knowledge on these subjects, I thought Data Science and Informatics are closely related so another possibility.
@2km2km I’m so frustrated. I dont know what this acceptance means
@j678jgpo - yep, i understand that out of staters bring in more $$$ to UC, but… there are alot of smart kids with high GPAs/test scores (and plenty of ECs) in California who get rejected and their families would happily pay the extra $30,000 that UC charges out of staters… the alternative is that many of these kids in California may end up going out of state ANYWAY after being rejected by UCs and end up paying $40-50K for out of state tuition at other schools. if it’s about state budgets and money, give those qualified kids and their families the option to keep their lives based in their home “country” of California. just my two cents.
There’s more to getting in than having high stats and good ECs- most people have that. The school has to benefit from accepting students. Admissions officers look to see if the applicant is a good fit for their school. I personally would not pay out of state tuition for UC that I didn’t get into, it’s not worth it. Community college is an option, use it to clear your GEs and then transfer into a UC.
Could someone tell me where the notification of admission / waitlist / rejection will be posted? I remember reading last night that a lot of people were missing it so I just want to make sure we’re looking in the right spot!
@3calboys. My advice is have him do a side by side comparison of the 4 year curriculums for both Data Science and Informatics to see if Informatics is a viable option. Also research the difficulty of changing majors.

@Gumbymom Thank you so much for your help!!!
has anyone gotten accepted into major: mathematics?
I am still waiting hopelessly
In all honesty, the anxiety that I’m receiving from this wait is kinda making me not want to go to Irvine. However, this is one of the schools I want to go to, but the anxiety is killing me. Why can’t they just reject me already? Cause if I get rejected I can throw a rejection party and feel better bout myself.
I’m just ranting cause I hate this wait. (The wait makes me think of “Cruel and Unusual Punishment”)
I hate uci. But pls accept me?
My friend got waitlist already ? Is it possible ?
Waitlists out already?
