I apologize in advance if this topic has been addressed in these forums already, but I'm wondering what Grad Schools UCI students go to after undergrad at irvine, particularly Engineering.

I've seen statistics on sites like UCSD, UC Berkeley, that show where undergrad students end up going (schools, jobs, etc), but having trouble finding this on the UCI website.

My dilemma is that im deciding between UCI, UCSD, UC davis, and so far I've liked UCI's campus the best. I want to major in Civil/Environmental engineering, with more of an emphasis on the environmental aspect.

I was a MAJOR slacker in high school (up until my 2nd semester junior year) and want to do well in undergrad school and go to a top grad school (dream school, UC Berkeley or Stanford, etc).

Anyways, my question is do UCI students go to top grad schools ike Berkeley/Stanford for engineering regularly? I'm sure some do, but is it a rare case? Or will UCI vs UCSD really not affect my chances at a top grad school like that?

I know most people say it's what you do in undergrad school that matters the most, but realistically, are they just saying that?

I'm an honors student for UCI, if that means anything. Don't think it means too much though

Thanks in advice.

in the sciences, most of the UCs will do well to prepare you for graduate school. the big thing is not GPA or general honors. its mostly letters of rec from ur (subject related profs) and relevant research (most schools in general). departmental honors can be important (particularly if there is a thesis option involved). ur high school grades dont really have any baring on grad school.

if in doubt, email a random professor from the civil engineering department (check ratemyprof to see if they are nice people…) and ask them similar questions. just clean up the ideas in ur post.

UCI is seen more as a premed school, but it will allow you to go to ANY graduate school assuming you do well there. i wish i could help you more with the c. engineering, but im mostly chem and its easy to not care about whats going on with other departments.

UCI is a very excellent school (and extremely young) so its reuptation/prestige is still being established. As far as I know differences b/t the UC’s you listed are small and will have little/no effect on applying for grad school.

As far as I know, GPA/Test Scores are more of a factor than anything else. One of my dorm mates’s older sis goes to Caltech. She went to school like everyone else on campus. Also, there are many opportunities on campus to grow academically/socially. Many of the teachers have Ph.D’s from very elite schools, so rest be assured that they know their *****!!! Study hard/get good grades and you will make it to grad school (this is something I wanna do too, I’m also an engr major!) GPA/Test Scores matter more than your undergrad reputation!

thanks.

anyone have some statistics? i think it might be on the UCI website, i just cant seem to find it…
