Well I didn't get into LA or Berkeley, so I'm choosing between SD, Irvine (honors), and Davis.

I want to do Civil/Environmental engineering. Right now I'm leaning towards SD, but I'm really not sure, I just know overall UCSD is the better engineering school.

Another concern is that UCSD puts environmental engineering under Mechanical/Aerospace Department. I much rahter do Civil+Environmental... will this be a problem i nthe future when I play to grad school?

so you are focusing on environmental?? then Davis would not be a bad choice for you. I did civil undergrad in davis and i would say its environmental is pretty good. if you want to do structural, however, go to sd as it has very good program vs the other two. SD has gotten better in recent years and more funding for engineering so they are strong too. i don't know much about irvine so no comment on that. visit both davis and sd and see which school you like better. also which school gives you better aid?

Structural is very good at San Diego, but if I remember correctly, their undergraduate degree is only in structural engineering, and not in general civil engineering. That would at least partially explain why the environmental engineering department is lumped in with mechanical and aerospace engineering... which still strikes me as being an odd place to put it.

So it really depends upon what sort of civil engineering you're leaning towards. If you wanted to do structural, SD is great, but it doesn't sound like that's all you're interested in. One of the other two programs might work better for you.

I skimmed over thier website and it seems that thier EnvE program has some renewable energy involved. That would involved more thermo and then average EnvE program which would also explain why its in mech.
