[] Personal Statement: I did the ‘my world’ one on how my family’s dire financials had led me to only pursue what I determine to really matter to me (and that would be building robots, learning about the human mind, and cognitive science). And for the one about ‘talent, quality, accomplishment, experience that matters to you’, I did mine on how I refused my friend’s offer to level up my League of Legends account because I value getting my own achievements and learning from my own mistakes.
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: Yep.
[] Intended Major: Cognitive Science
[] State (if domestic applicant): California

[] School Type: Public, charter-like but not really. Small-sized (500 people). Unique. Project-based. Requires 200 hours of community service to graduate. No AP classes provided (so no weighed GPA’s), but they let kids w/ 3.0 GPA’s go take college classes at Cal Poly Pomona. Grading system is different. No advanced math programs until the recent AP Calc class. No music program. No sports program until recently.
[] Ethnicity: Asian
[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket: $27,000
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.):
First generation college student, immigrant, school is unique, low-income, Dad’s deaf (though I definitely did not let that overwhelm my whole application, since I really hate to use him as an excuse for anything), series of family unemployment recently
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Weird school. My hooks are pretty numerous. Personal statement #2 is of a unique topic.
[] Weaknesses: I’m not a good writer, and I wrote my personal statements the day it was due (yeah, don’t do that). Leadership position is only during senior year.
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: My school is weird: there’s a reason why I’m in the top 7% of my grade with only 3.6 GPA… And maybe the admission officer who read my essay plays League, too, hahaha.[/li][/ul]General Comments: Congrats to those who made it in and best hopes for those who didn’t–we can all end at places where we most belong.

A little confidence booster for those in distress:

Decision: Accepted
Major: Computer Science

Unweighted GPA: 2.7
Weighted: 3.08

Roughly 200 hours of community service, Freshman/Sophomore years I ran track, and a part-time job at McDonald’s acquired this school year. I received a D in AP English Lit 1st semester of my senior year. Decent essays, but a tremendous supplement. Accepted to UCI, UCSC, and SJSU. Good luck to the rest of you.

@MrDumpling10 @Stacych8 Thank you! I actually received an email telling me my status had changed today (the 17th). Checked the portal, no change. I called the admissions office and they told me many people were experiencing this problem and they asked for my I.D. I gave it, they told me the issue would be resolved. It was, and I have been admitted. Good luck!

I don’t know “when” exactly I got accepted but it was only after I received the status change email (initially it hadn’t changed but after maybe 12 hours it did) the damning part is that I applied for biz admn but got in through undeclared . My stats aren’t that great tbh.

SAT : 600CR 680W 630M
High School Record has an upward arc( I’m Indian so you would probably not understand what the technical jargon is that is used) in short grades re going from 70Percent to 90Percent.
ECs: School Sports Captain, Lead guitarist of high school band(won a dozen awards) 50 hours of Community Service
Essays: “inspiring” according to my counselor

Ok so UCI is rolling admission, so basically any of us can get a decision at anytime. Even though I’m ready to pull my hair out I think we just need to wait with smiles on our faces guys. i mean I have friends with good gpas still waiting for UCR. Let’s just hope for the best.

We keep trying to look for a pattern or we think everything is an omen. I think we’re driving ourselves insane trying to slap meaning onto something. Maybe our friends we just lucky and part of that batch. Maybe it truly is random. Let’s not lose hope! :)

Guys I think it’s just technical difficulties. I’m having some issues accessing it too. I remember everybody freaking out over UCSD’s portal crashing. But I am getting really anxious. UCI just tell us! :(

I do not understand at all why they are sending out in batches :(( this will seriously be the death of me. I’ve already gotten into my #2 choice and am happy with that. I just want them to rip the bandaid off fast lol

It’s a tense situation guys , I know. The whole UCSD saga was pretty tough. Irvine is just making sure that their system doesn’t “crash”. Be patient. You will be…rewarded.

what @rusty34 saying is correct, the reason for all the wait and sending in batches, is because they are watching out for their portal so it would not crash. UCI already experienced a technical difficulty yesterday, so they are taking a step by step so they won’t fall in the crash situation. guys you just gotta wait, the admissions are not
just chilling in their offices and doing nothing, they are doing their best to resolve the problem and preventing the system from crashing. I am sure no one wants that big crash to happen to the system, so stay positive peers! :)
