@CarloRM thats the spirit! Keep that positivity!! Worse case scenario you can always appeal or cc and transfer. My friend had his heart set on Uc irvine and didn’t get in right off the bat. He ended up going to a community college in Irvine which took more of his AP credits, saved $, and allowed him to live/experience the area. He later transferred in after doing his GE’s and I believe cc applicants get more priority.
Thanks, @CarloRM and @Coolbeanzlol! Those are both very helpful responses.
Do decisions only come out after 3-4pm?
Just talked to an admissions counselor through the live chat feature on the admissions page. She said that the system randomly releases decisions; it is not prioritized based on acceptances nor major. Hope this relieves some nerves. Good luck everyone!
@hawaiianboy Thank you for taking the initiative to do this!! I think this year’s admissions process was definitely affected by Covid-19; I’ve never seen (in the last 5 years) waitlists and rejections being mixed in with acceptances. It’s usually a blunt A/W/R wave, over the course of 3-5 days, which has been consistent for UCI for many years. I have hope that the system is a bit different this year in that its releasing random decisions!
Fingers crossed for everyone that good news is coming their way ASAP!
For what it’s worth, Last year a boy from our school was first informed of his acceptance to UCI only a few days prior to April. Before that, his portal had not been updated.
Hey guys! My D got accepted on Friday around 5pm . I just wanted to ease your worries and tell you guys that everyone has a chance. UCI was a major reach for her GPA 3.9 and SAT 1100. She wrote her essays with a lot of passion and I agree that UCI is looking at more than just stats but the person in all. I hope you guys get a response soon.
I have a 3.79 Weighted UC GPA and a 1500 SAT (700 R, 800 M) and 780 in Math 2 Subject Test. So far I got admission into UCR and UCM, got waitlisted at UCD and UCSC, and got rejected from UCSB, UCSD, and UCLA. Even with good essays and extracurriculars, I know that UCI is a high reach for me, but it’s my last chance (albeit a desperate one) and I won’t give up hope till the end. Wishing the best for everyone else as well!
The waiting is hard, we’re getting mentally prepared to go to UC Davis, without seeing the campus, but would much prefer to stay close to home at UCI. After hearing UCI admitted 1100, 3.9 I have a small amount of hope left. My daughter has a 4.06, but her act conversion to sat would be 1040. We are very happy she got accepted to Davis, but would be so happy to be closer to home right now. Hoping for a miracle.
@zoomtransfer123 You know, it’s weird davis and santa cruz hit you like that. I know people who have far worse stats than you get into UCLA, like wth. It’s really random, and honestly I think UCI shouldn’t be a reach for you. 1500 is a really good sat score, and despite your gpa, your stats arent bad at all
@LiamnHenson thanks for your comment! I really hope I make UCI, but I applied for CS as my primary and CE as my secondary which are competitive. Just crossing my fingers.
Yes it definitely depends on the major.
i really hope the next wave comes out today, i’m super nervous i have a 3.4 weighted due to some personal cirumstances but i rly tried to make up for it with my sat score(1360) and many meaningful extracurriculars that i put my heart and soul into. i’ve been rejected everywhere except for ucr and ucm and im really hoping uci pulls through but i have no idea.
@user3246 What was her major?
Curious…did anyone get an email notification from any UC schools or is going through the portal the only way to get the news. I know my kid got a reject from UCLA but never got an email either way. Wondering now about Irvine…kind of don’t really care at this point but am curious. Got locked out of the portal and can’t seem to get back in. Just want closure at this point and wonder if an email will every come so we can avoid dealing with the portal.
@Ontheverge Yes, I think UCI will send an email b4 updating the portal as someone on this thread asked a counselor and they said that they’ll get an email about admission.
Will they release any decisions today?
nope didn’t get anything
@zoomtransfer123 thanks! I guess we will wait. I am surprised we have not gotten an email from UCLA from last Friday’s decision. But these are strange times and know people are busying trying to pivot so I am not upset about all the issues and misfires. There is a lot on everyone’s plate so grace is needed at this time.
@zoomtransfer123 I am shocked i almost have the same exact stats as u except that I have a 1460. My capped is around 3.79 too but my fully weighted is 4.3. I also have a 780 Math 2 score. I got waitlisted by UCSC and UCSD and rejected by LA, SB and waiting on Irvine. I applied computer game science which is really competitive i know but I am hoping for Irvine because I loved the school when I visited. Honestly, I realized through this process that UC schools rly care about unweighted GPA, and it held me back because I took a lot of APs and got lots of Bs.
