Yeah, UCI admitted fewer students this year as the student housing expansion fell behind deadlines… Thus less housing available for freshman students. Hence to avoid “unhappy” students who can’t get housing they are admitting less. Sorry guys you most likely are not getting in… It has nothing to do with last years over enrollment per se, but let’s just say last years admits screwed you guys over because they complained.
@pcarneva source? I dont think they’ve released a single waitlist yet too so I wouldn’t lose hope
@pcarneva cool story bro.
@ayylmaoooo they have extended deadlines for admitted students through waitlisting.
https://consupt.com/2017/07/middle-earth-expansion-begins-on-student-housing-at-uc-irvine/
https://www.housing.uci.edu/communityLife/me-expansion.html
“UCI Middle Earth Expansion project consists of two phases: 1) a new student housing building on the site of two buildings to be demolished (Brandywine Commons and Brandywine Student Center) and 2) the renovation of Pippin Commons.”
“The new project will house roughly 494 students and include a new dining facility, along with amenity and classroom spaces.”
“Middle Earth may be where Hobbits live in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy; however, it is also a housing community for freshman on the UCI campus”
They had this planned to be finished for fall 2018, but the buildings are now destroyed and hence less student housing for freshman. This issue of housing and last year’s admissions is part of the reason why they admitted less overall. Also, they don’t want freshman complaining that they got accepted and they cannot get housing on campus… SOOOOOO yeah.
And if you really want a source I go there and they still building where Brandywine used to be…
@pcarneva
Freshman housing has nothing to do with transfer admissions. Also, the fact that the UCI student housing has less availability for freshman does not mean they are going to admit less students. The sole purpose of having off-campus housing is to accommodate for students who cannot receive UCI housing services.
“It has nothing to do with last years over enrollment per se, but let’s just say last years admits screwed you guys over because they complained” You literally just defeated your own argument lol
Also UCI hasn’t even looked at the appeals or released anyone off the waitlist. They’re trying to avoid the big scandal they had last year where they rushed their decision process and over-admitted students. They are just taking their sweet time. Our chance to get off the waitlist is still good as it ever was. Keep your hopes alive folks. Its not over yet.
@DDerrick
Well, considering most people are complaining why the freshman admit rate is at 28.5% (that is the primary reason) as for the transfer admission I don’t believe they released an official transfer admit rate.
@DDerrick Yeah I wouldn’t be so “optimistic” in terms of being accepted off a waitlist. First thing is first. The freshman admissions will be lower this year than most years (considering that the whole freshman dorm portion was knocked to the ground and there is nothing in its place). They don’t want people saying, “I got accepted, where is my housing on campus?” I can guarantee there will be people complaining about it. Most off campus housing is already taken or reserved by current students, i.e. UTC (they have reservations in winter quarter). Freshman usually will end up in the dorms until their sophomore year. Unless you live in Irvine or commute a good distance from campus those are the only ways you get “off-campus” housing.
Also “They’re trying to avoid the big scandal they had last year where they rushed their decision process and over-admitted students.”
UCI admissions never had a scandal… I still believe alot of those 499 students were just bad at dates. They are not going to just raise acceptance from waitlist percentages either. Sure some of you will get in as people decline, but unless an extranordiany amount decline you probably don’t have higher chances as previous years.
I have seen the admissions process at Irvine for a good 5 years. Don’t hope that because there is a LOW acceptance rate that there will be a HIGHER acceptance off the waitlist. Just a warning to really consider to SIR somewhere else instead of waiting for Irvine and their waitlist.
@pcarneva
I’d rather be optimistic than someone who openly states “Sorry guys you most likely are not getting in” when you have no evidence to back up your claim. Once again, your whole spiel about freshman housing has nothing to do with transfer admissions. No one on here is complaining about freshman transfer rates. Do you realize that this is a forum for Transfer Waitlist applicants?
UCI’s admissions office got roasted last year for rescinding nearly 500 student offers of admission.

@pcarneva if you are currently a UCI student…
- What are you even doing on the transfer board?
- Why do you care what is going on here?
- Are you just trying to be a pompous jerk to people you have no affiliation or relationship with?
Just curious but you should stop being a ■■■■■.
@pccarneva
“Sure some of you will get in as people decline, but unless an extraordinary amount decline you probably don’t have higher chances as previous years.” Im glad you were able to realize that the whole point of the waitlist is to fill in the spots of those who declined admission. Thank you for stating the obvious. You must be fun at parties.
The admission acceptance rate for transfers can vary for each year, however no evidence has proven that this year won’t have higher chances as previous years.
This guys just being a Schwanz… Let him be. He’s talking about about seeing admissions for 5 years… then talks about considering SIR at another school. Is he assuming a some of the people here were accepted at a private uni? Cuz it’s already past June 1st…
When tf are we gona hear back…
If they knocked down Brandywine Commons and Brandywine Student Center, neither of those two are dorms. They may be behind on adding additional beds, but they haven’t lost any beds from construction.
UCSB, UCSD, and UCB have released (some) wait list decisions. Hopefully, UCI will release something around 3:30ish today…
ZOT! x3
@pcarneva again, cool story bro.
your theory crafting fails pretty hard because you do not have any solid proof to back up your theory.
all you did in your posts is linking bunch of news related to housing and “ASSUME” that it will cause an issue towards admission. i’m sorry to let you down but admissions don’t work that way. why dont you do yourself a research before spamming the board with your non-logical statements? i’ll give you a starting point. go google “why schools accept transfers.” you are welcome.
Anyone get accepted yet? I’m still pending as of 3:53pm
No not yet, hopefully soon!!
UCI will probably be the first UC to not accept anyone off the waitlist ECKS DEE
Nothing yet for me
