UCI Financial Aid

well, this is making me really sad :(

i went though all the trouble of trying to get my Cal Grant A with GPA verification paperwork etc and now im going to get less money from the UCI grant if I get my Cal Grant Accpeted??/

Bull*****!!! There are guys here who got both regents and UCI Grant the full amount!

If i get around 7K for my Cal Grant A i was hoping not to take out any loans.

Just to make it clear…

The UCI Grant does NOT include the Cal Grant A or B (whichever one you got). It is separate. For my particular CCC, I nagged them until they turned in the GPA verification form. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: If they didn’t turn in the form but you did get the Cal Grant this year, your best bet is to call the California Student Aid Commission and let them know if they did or did not receive it and go from there. Last year I didn’t turn it in (thinking my school would automatically do it for me), but the CSAC e-mailed me a little bit over a month ago telling me that my Cal Grant for the 2008-09 year was Pending for Withdrawl (as in, I wouldn’t get my money for the year).

Very important as well. Once you change schools, you have to contact them as well, or else they won’t know. Sure, the UCs you submitted your FAFSA to know that you got or are pending Cal Grant but won’t get the money for it unless the CSAC has it on your file that you are attending whatever UC campus that may be!

If you plan on calling them, which is what I did to make sure that they got it done at the time I was calling them, be prepared to be on hold for a while.

Best of luck and if you have more questions, shoot me a PM if I don’t respond here, but I will check back! [:

Does Cal Grant send the information to all the schools we listed on FAFSA? Or only to the one we will be attending (aka, the one that is currently on our webgrants webpage)?

Maybe that is why. Sakurax, on your “Webgrants for Students” account on that website, for “College of Attendance” you put down UCI?

I’m really guessing that they send it to the schools we listed on our FAFSA because I haven’t done that…“College of Attendance” thing because the Rep at the CSAC who I was on the phone with told me to call them asap once I know which college I will be attending next year. [:

Has UCI already given out all the regents scholarship available for the transfer students? Or is it still in progress?

How does waitlist and financial aid work? will i get something

So what if we received the Cal Grant for 2009-2010 (this past school year?)? Mine isn’t showing up even though I submitted the FAFSA on time. I thought we only had to a GPA verification form the first time we applied for the Cal Grant. It could be because I forgot to add all of the UCs I applied to until March 3rd…what should I do so that the schools (like UCI) know that I’m getting the Cal Grant? I’m confused. :(

IM SOOO CONFUSED TOO! so i did my fafsa and the corrections, but whats up with everyone talking about CAL grant. i dont understand. how do i check the what cal i qualify. help please??

Wow…I can’t believe some revived this thread from last year…

Anyways, the FAFSA and the Cal Grant are two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT AND SEPARATE PROGRAMS. Sorry for the caps, but they are needed.

As stated by the name the Cal Grant is only for California students and the FAFSA is for United States students.

Also, the Cal Grant situation isn’t looking so great. This year we were able to get them but as far as I know, new students into the college system aren’t being allowed to get the Grant.

The deadline has passed for the Cal Grant application period (you just had to fill out a small application) and sometimes your CCC automatically sends your grades by March 2nd so you can be eligible for it and thus you won’t have to do anything.

Re my last post, I checked out the CSAS award detail site and it said that I’ll find out the status of my Cal Grant renewal by late June, and then I can submit a new school (and by then I’ll know where I’ll be going anyway). So I don’t have any questions about the Cal Grant process itself because I know I receive it.

But I noticed that there is a page on the UCI site that tells you to report any other aid you will be receiving, including the Cal Grant, so now I am sure that the gift aid is all from UCI/UC. But it still says that your award will be adjusted once you make changes. So will this minimize the UCI gift aid dramatically? I hope not, because I have an EFC of 0 and like Vyruz I was hoping to not take out any loans (which they currently suggest I do). I’m a humanities major. =P

Basically, I want to know if and how much my UCI gift aid is going to be reduced because of my Cal Grant earlier than the summer, after I have to decide which school to attend! But it seems as though it will decrease dramatically and I will have to take out loans.

I’m not sure if I can exactly help you, but from my experience last year when I recieved my financial aid summary, here’s what it looked like:

Before Cal Grant:
Gift Aid-16,000+

After Cal Grant:
Gift Aid- <10,000.

So yeah…it does make a difference! Sorry I can’t give you specific numbers but I can’t remember on the top of my head! I didn’t end up picking Irvine as my school but after a couple of days within getting an email from the CSAS, Irvine emailed me with my “updated FA package” which is why I can estimate!

Hope it helps!

Thanks, it does help. Do you remember if the amount they subtracted from your gift aid was about the same as your Cal Grant award? If there’s even a little bit of leeway/extra gift aid then that would help, but I guess I should assume there won’t be because the Blue&Gold program is only for tuition. It’s the housing costs on top of it that’s promising to hurt me.

I’m not sure if I’m going to go to UCI either…I’m now hoping I get into a school that offers me a bit more aid!

Don’t quote me, but I’m sure the gift aid was reduced a bit more than the Cal Grant amount. I’m with you, don’t worry, I have 0 EFC too and have two jobs here at Cal. Blue&Gold covered tuition but if I wanted to get housing here, I probably would have to have taken out a loan.

If I didn’t get into Cal, I probably would have gone to Davis, just because they offered me more aid.

Good luck!

Wow, I can’t believe they actually took away more than the grant gave you. =/ This is all pretty disappointing. Anyway, I didn’t even realize that the majority of this thread was from last year so thank you for the information!

Glad to help! I know, right? I wouldn’t be surprised if this year due to the budget cut they don’t even give you that much to begin with! Best of luck to you!

Hi, I need help. My UCI unofficial financial report is as follows:

Academic Competitiveness Grant for First Year: 750 UNCONFIRMED

@amazingness7
When you log on to mygrantinfo, it tells you what awards you have won already? I’m still waiting to be processed.

yeah it says “application has been processed”

@amazingness7
i have the same issue. but im calling tmr to see wsup.
but people on other threads said that if uci offer u cal grant a, then u’ll get that

The account will tell you how much aid they school will give you under the “My Aid Award”
Currently, it’s taking a while for them to determine how much aid they can give because the California budget has not been decided–this will happen in mid-May, so check back then to see if they’ve given you an aid award.
