UCI or UCSB (both honors)

This is my dilemma:

UCI or UCSB (both honors).

I don't like to party. I like computer science and east asian languages.

My mom acts like this is a no brainer and I should go to UCSB because it's so much nicer more social blah blah blah.

But I really don't want to party!

So what should I do?

Visit both campuses on a school day in the middle of the week and you’ll really get a feel for what it’s like. “Social” does not have to mean partying. I took some classes at UCI, but I did my full 4 years at UCSB. UCI is definitely more of a commuter school. People generally go to class and go home. Period.

UCSB has a very dense social fabric, and there’s always something, somewhere, going on for everybody. This includes endless activities sponsored by UCSB or by student groups and organizations.

Also, one of my good friends at UCSB was a Computer Science major, and he absolutely loved the program. He lived with 2 students in the same major throughout his four years, and all of them wound up working at Google or Microsoft. Now, two of them will be getting their PhDs in Computer Science at UCSB because they loved it so much… they just couldn’t stay away!

Hope this helps!

It sounds like you already made up your mind?

I’m also a computer science major that doesn’t like to party. I chose UCSB and I really enjoy it. You seem fixated on a mentality that “if you go to UCSB, you have to party or you’ll be an outcast,” but in reality that’s far from the case. I don’ party, but even without partying, I really enjoy the social aspects of this school. I’m not just some tiny minority either; the majority of my friends and people I associate with don’t party either. I don’t have any trouble finding like-minded people to have a good time with. I also picked this school because the beach is obviously really nice and I prefer the demographics of UCSB versus the demographics of UCI (I’m Asian too).

Meanwhile, if you’re really into computer science, UCI comes out on top. It has a really good program plus a lot of technology-oriented companies, including Blizzard Entertainment, are located in Irvine, so I would assume internships are a lot easier, or at least more convenient. That’s not to say UCSB’s is bad though, it’s more of a matter of “they’re both good, just this one’s better a little better.” The poster above me sells our computer science program pretty well.

I don’t think you can go wrong with either school.

your momma is right  UCI is a commuter school and it’s kind of boring if you ask me (the surrounding area). I’m assuming your asain because of you east asian studes - I guess one of the negative things about sb is the small asian population (10%?) compared to other UC’s altough imo UCI has TOO many asians -.- 60% is kind of ridiculous

im not asian, im white.

then go to sb

Sorry D: well I would still pick SB…

asians in UCI ostensibly speak east asian languages?
