(Just got a notification email about it today at 3:19pm, I am not getting any aid cause my dad makes way too much, which sucks, cause he also has a lot of debt. But I just wanted everyone to know that they are posted now… or at least some of them are.)

I’m new to getting financial aid because before this I was claimed as a dependent. So how do grants work? Is the amount given on a yearly basis or your entire lifetime at UCI? Anyone?

Grants are free money that the school will give you. What you’ve been awarded is only for the 2014-2015 school year. Most likely they will be dispersing them before or right when the quarter starts.

Great, thank you @k4201505 ! I am assuming they are awarded on a need basis? I got a bit more than $996 (free money is good! Haha) but I am guessing that is because I am claiming myself on my taxes.

Thanks I guess, if its anything like last year i still only have a 5% chance of getting in!!
I have no idea why I was waitlisted. This is the second year in a row that I was waitlisted at UCI. I’m pretty sure that my GPA was the only week aspect of my application I have lots of awards and community service, plus I finished the Honors program at my CC. But honestly, I don’t claim to know why admissions accepts people the way they do. Just look at this thread, people with High GPA’s and stellar apps get rejected…

If you aren’t sure then I think asking admissions would be your best bet. Speculating over other people’s numbers, IMO, becomes fruitless because you don’t have the same grades, experiences, or majors and thus different applications ultimately. Plus if it really is some error, you only so much time to correct it. I got declined last year, and it sucked. Comparing yourself to numbers has so many limitations and just gets you down. Be proactive and try to convey yourself as a stronger candidate with the time you have.

I tagged with UCI. I got waitlisted by UCI and denied by others. My TAG was revoked because i accidently clicked on the wrong major on my application it was a carless mistake and now they revoked my TAG application. Counselor said I met all the qualifications that i needed bu tthat nullified the TAG. So now my only choice is UCI, I am waitlited and an admissions counselor advised that I also appeal even if im on the waitlist
