I've been accepted to and visited both UCI and SLO, and I'm wondering which one is better suited for computer science. During one of my trips to UCI I had a csc student as my tour guide and he explained the various connections that UCI has with software companies in the area, all of which were very appealing. Are there any stories you guys have that would aid in my decision? I like the colleges about equally, although I'm more comfortable and familiar with the Irvine area, and have people I know there already.

Thanks,
Jake

They are both good schools for CS.

Just go for the better personal fit, which seems to be Irvine based on what you said.

Have you visited Cal Poly? The 2 schools are very different in terms of environment.

Cal Poly is a very residential campus, probably 99% of the students live within 5 miles of the campus (i.e. no one commutes). So there is a fish bowl like atmosphere (you run into your classmates all the time everywhere), but also strong sense of community there.

Also, it is in a very non-urban location with natural environment and beaches as its main draw. So if you are into outdoor lifestyle, then it will be a good fit. Otherwise, you will most likely find it too rural.
