UCI vs. UMiam Hard to decide!

Hello guys, I am international student from China. And I will be an undergraduate freshman this year. I recently got accpeted to both UCI - University of California, Irvine (bussines economics major - School of Social Sciences, which is not in School of Buiness Administration) and UM - University of Miami (undeclared major - School of Business Administration). I know they both are excellent colleges and they are competitive, that's why I don't know how to decide...
My major will be business for sure. I am an international student, money is not a big deal for me to decide the school because for international students the fees are similar.

There are lots issues that really matters me to make the decision.

The most important thing - I will get into the business program for sure. As you see above, I got accpted to the school of School of Business Administration at UMiami, but I just got accpted to the School of Social Sciences at UCI which I prefer go to the school of Business Administration directly. Does anyone know is the business program good at UMiami? I heard the business program is not so good comparte to other majors at Umiami though. And if I choose to go to UCI, is it easy to transfer from the School of Social Sciences to the school of Business Administration at UCI?

Also, the size of these two colleges' classes really matter me! Because UCI is a public school and UM is a private school, and generally the private schools have way smaller classes size than public schools', is it correct? If it's true, I really want to know how many students in lower division classes (intro classes) at UCI and UM?? Because I really care the size of classes... I mean, if a good school have good professors but the size of classes is enormours which I heard UCI have some classes more than 350+ students, it will be pointless to go to a good school...
Specifically, does anyone can tell me about the size of business classes at UCI?

Moreover, the background and race of these two schools. I heard there are lots of Latinos and Hispanics at UM, and lots of Asian at UCI. I am a Chinese, so I know how competitive at college which full of Asians... I know Asians are smart and crazy, so I think UCI with 47% Asian could kill me... However, compare to UCI, I heard UMiami is famous for "party school", people there are super rich and superfical, they care about parties more than acdemic studying. Is it true?? I mean, I wish I could go to school have a competitive enviroment but not super intense... I want to have a moderate enviornment to study. Is it true the studying enviornment at UCI is really competitive? I am a Chinese, I really want to be invovled in an Asian background but not the intense studying enviornment...

If anyone could answer my tons of questions, I would be really appreciated!

I say go to U of Miami.

First of all, Miami has overall the better name recognition across the US. It’s true business isn’t the strongest major at Miami, but it’s definitely superior to UCI’s undergrad business school, which is only a few years old. As far as class size, Miami is by no means small for a private university, it’s around 10k if I remember correctly. Personally I’d much rather be in Miami (or near) than Irvine.

Any university will have parties, granted UCI is probably below average in terms of partying, but you should not feel overwhelmed with a party atmosphere at Miami. That vibe is more about the city itself if anything, and it’s up to you if you want to venture throughout off-campus. Good luck!

Thank you!
Are you at UCI now? Did you hear anything about UCI’s undergrad business program?

If I were you, I would go to UM

Any reasons??

Hi – I don’t know anything abt the business programs at either school, but I thought I’d share my observations about UCI. It is VERY quiet on the weekends because most of the kids go home on the weekend. So, you might get lonely. Have you visited either school? Irvine is a very suburban area. Lots of housing tracts and shopping malls. There are some very beautiful beaches nearby though. You would be sad without a car there. Everything in the surrounding area is very spread out. As far as rigor of UCI, I don’t think it is insanely rigorous. My sister taught there (in a humanities field) and lots of kids took her classes to fulfill general education requirements. She certainly didn’t feel that the students were working too hard!

I’ve been Irvine but not UCI. And my dad’s Chinese friends actually live in Irvine now… So it would be very convenient for me to go to UCI…
The thing I worry about is the brand new undergrad Business program and I even not gonna get into the business school (If I go to UCI, I will major in Business Econocmis which is under the school of Social Sciences)…

Are you going back to China after college? If not, pick the place where you’d rather work after graduation (CA of FL)

I think I will go to graduate… So it doesn’t matter… But thank you;)

@txtxtxt - Nah, I got into UCI but I plan on attending U of Washington. I’ve done a lot of research on UCI’s business school though. Imo it’s just not worth it to pay full UC OOS/International tuition for a business school that is not even that renowned. Like I said Merage is still very new. Even if their business schools were similar prestige-wise, I would probably still choose Miami based on the reasons I provided earlier.

UCI is 55% asian. Some asians are robots and some asians are lazy (like me! )

I think so! You are definitely right! U of Washington is awesome! Most majors are great there! Good luck;)

I love hanging out Asian because I am one of them… But…Asians are crazy! Lazy asians can be smarter!!! You know what I mean… Hard to decide… Does UCI do curve grading??? I would die…

Well the number of Asians is definitely a huge difference. UMiami is not only smaller overall, but the percentage of Asians is also considerably lower. But hey… you’re from China so you’ve been around Asians your entire life, it would probably be a better experience for your own sake (especially for grad school) if you reach out beyond Asians too.

Are you able to visit Miami? The vibe you get at either school should be polar opposites, might help you out with your decision.

I am not able to visit Miami I guess… But I’ve been to Irvine, not UCI though… I love the vibe of the city Irvine, quiet and safe… But I also can imagine the vibe at UMiami, energtic and alive which I also like;) Hard to decide!
