Uci waitlist discussion thread class of 2024

I’m so scared! This is so suspenseful!! ):

just making sure, they likely admit by stats and then by diversity (don’t know a better word), or is it in the hands of the people who know which demographic uci needs to take more of to be ~diverse~ (as a vietnamese first-gen female with a low GPA and a okay(?) SAT (1330) i’m scared)

Do ppl who applied as undeclared have a higher chance of getting in from the WL?

@heyykelleyy According to the UCSD waitlist CC page, they admit by lottery by major based off of open space.

Any ideas abt if they’re gonna release another wave today?

@henrynvn I always say hopefully, but I seriously am not expecting anything at this point. If they had already released a post-SIR deadline wave and we were still waiting, I wouldn’t be frustrated… but literally NOTHING since SIR deadline? I get taking a while but c’mon UCI :frowning:

y’all think it’s harder to get off the waitlist as a business major??

not sure if this means anything but uci’s facebook class of 2024 has 4157 members.

But notice that there are almost 8k members in uci’s fb class of 2023

Saw someone on Reddit say the people who got off on April 28th have an SIR deadline of May 7th, and they think the next wave may come then. However, I don’t get the point in waiting until then since nobody from the School of Social Sciences has been let off yet. :confused:

The next wave would likely be starting May 8. Can anyone confirm whether that is binding? What if the students are on other waitlists? Or perhaps you lose deposit if you later on decide to take the offer from another school? It is such a messy and inefficient process.

@Zanskar:
Waitlists are not binding, but if you enroll and then change your mind if accepted off another school’s waitlist, you will lose your enrollment deposit.

Thank you. Since you are so helpful, could you also comment on whether different UC campus has different residency policy for tuition purpose (you would think not). For students who finish high school OOS but have parents who start working and moving back to CA during freshman year (used to be CA resident but had to move work OOS during high school years), does UC allow you to reestablish CA residency for tuition purposes in later years?

Certain sources seem to indicate once you enroll as OOS, yo cannot establish in state for tuition purposes, unless you are financially independent. Does that make sense?

got off waitlist today at around 6pm for nursing! 4.3 w gpa, 3.93 uw, 32 act

@soco48 omf i remember u !!! CONGRATS !!! <3333

@soco48 Did you get off the waitlist today, and if so, has anyone else gotten off today?

@Zanskar: You and your parents would need to establish CA residency by living here for 366 days prior to filing a change of residency status.

So if you and your parents move here during your Freshman year, then you have to wait the 366 days before you can file for in-state residency and get in-state UC tuition. The UC system as a whole follows these rules.

So you and your family will be paying OOS fees for the first year.

@Gumbymom -will you be able to opine on the residency question. Thank you.

some people on reddit are saying they received what looks like an update to a waitlist acceptance offer. but they can’t submit the SIR. anyone know what this is?

Dear [REDACTED],

As you weigh your decision on whether to attend UCI this fall, I would like to share some important tuition and housing information for the upcoming academic year.

Tuition: Due to the continuing Coronavirus health crisis, please be aware that some or all instruction for all or part of Academic Year 20-21 may be delivered remotely. Tuition and mandatory fees have been set regardless of the method of instruction and will not be refunded in the event instruction occurs remotely for any part of the Academic Year.

Housing: As a campus, we take great pride in providing a wonderful student housing experience for our students, and, under normal circumstances, offering guarantees for this housing to a large percentage of our student body. However, it is not possible for us to know at this time whether the current public health crisis will allow us to maintain normal operations in student housing and residential life when the fall quarter begins. Consequently, we are not offering a housing guarantee at this time.

We are committed to having students on campus to the maximum extent possible. But, it will be some time before we know more precisely how many students we can safely accommodate in our housing units. Additional information will be provided by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as we have more to report. For more information about this, as well as other expected changes for fall 2020 as they are determined, please visit our FAQ page here.

We hope you will accept our offer of admission and respond with a Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) by the deadline. If we can be of any assistance in helping you and your families make this important decision, please contact us directly by sending a message through your admitted student portal.

poster's comment -- It’s the first and last paragraph that confuses people

You need to submit SIR by 5/7. I was trying to extend it last Friday only to receive a response from a specific person last night that they could not extend to June 1 but there might be some flexibility. They have a live Q&A at 3 pm EST today and tomorrow if one have questions. I am taking an offer from another school so there will be one more spot released to pool. Good luck to all.
