just a reminder for all future UCLA-ers to be content with their decision.

Is the freshman housing really that good? The virtual thing on their website makes the dorms look quite small. You can't beat the location though, and the campus was really well maintained when I visited.

In answer to the question on if the dorms are really as small as they seem on the website. Yes they are. My daughter and I spent this past Wednesday visiting the campus. We met up with several friends who graduated last year and are freshmen living in the dorms. We saw three different housing units both doubles and triples. All seemed really tight. No spare room what so ever. I thought my other daughters room at Berkekly was tiny. Now it seems spacious. Though dorm size shouldn't make the decision on whether to attend or not my daughter is looking at her other school choices taking into consideration housing options.

Where is HYPM?
ANy top college guide have to include them, and if it doesn't, the guide is flawed.

Yes, the dorms are as small as they seem.

they have 2nd best freshman housing, does not seem so by peoples comments

i actually find berkeley dorms (the units) to be in worse condition and smaller than UCLA's oldest dorms (the residence halls).

i'm in a triple in a residence hall (least possible room space combo) and i find it adequate.

"You can't beat the location though, and the campus was really well maintained when I visited."

perhaps that's why housing is well thought of for ucla. everything is convenient. also, housing is now guaranteed for 3 years. no other UC does that.

And by 2009, we'll have housing for all four years...

"perhaps that's why housing is well thought of for ucla. everything is convenient. also, housing is now guaranteed for 3 years. no other UC does that."

Other schools have guarateed housing for all 4 yours and are not as crowded ie
only doubles and singles

UCLA housing is pathetic. UCLA can learn a few things from UCSB when it comes to housing

"Where is HYPM?"

bubbles for sale, the rank is for best OVERALL colleges, just the whole package, not just the rep or academics.

I second to that. UCSB housing is the best of all UCs.

oh but who wants to stay in a dorm when u can explore LA!!??

"Where is HYPM?"

bubbles for sale, the rank is for best OVERALL colleges, just the whole package, not just the rep or academics."

From the rankings academics seem to have been weighted less than other factors, but then again UCLA second for housing is just not true> I dont know where the flaw is but its somewhere.

"Other schools have guarateed housing for all 4 yours and are not as crowded ie
only doubles and singles"

i was only talking about UC's. i'm pretty sure no other UC does that.

also take into account that this is LOS ANGELES where everything is already crowded, limited, and expensive.

"UCLA housing is pathetic. UCLA can learn a few things from UCSB when it comes to housing"

Let's be sympathetic. UCLA has many more students, crammed onto only 417 acres. If UCLA had Santa Barbara's size, it doubtless would not have such a problem.

Not to insult my own superb institution, but USC, with infinitely more financial resources than UCLA, could easily build sufficient housing to guarantee it for four years. However, like UCLA, USC is in Los Angeles and suffers from a lack of space. Consequently, even USC can only offer housing to freshmen.

Comparatively, UCLA's situation is not that bad for being in a big city. I already mentioned USC's, and to use another example, NYU buses students from dorms that are more than 8 miles away from the campus (Water St.). Frankly, what UCLA is doing with its housing situation is admirable and should be commended.

thank you themegastud.

yeah but survey says second best out of all colleges Harvard and Harvey Mudd and other schools have 4 years guaranteed housing and bigger rooms and more singles.

once again...best "overall" school. not just best housing LoL.

harvard is harvard and all...but "hot and trendy?" don't think so (which is part of the Kaplan ranking)

UCLA totally has the full package on everything :)

"once again...best "overall" school. not just best housing LoL."

thats besides the point I was showing that in terms of housing its way wrong ,in Best Freshman Housing it has a 2 in rank as in second best behind Texas A&M both of which are not places that I think of when thinking housing
