does anyone know the UCLA acceptance rate? UC Berkeley was like 17.2%

Is the acceptance rate of the UC’s really valid since so many people that shouldn’t/wouldn’t apply to a specific school do because they can just check a box rather than investing any more time and money into applying? Not saying it isn’t extremely difficult to get in these places, but it is same issue with common app nowadays - pay a fee, check a box and apply anywhere, so aren’t the figures skewed to where they aren’t that meaningful?

they’re still meaningful lol
it still costs $75 to “check a box,” and most people decide to apply only after consideration; nobody does it randomly

and at the engineering open house’s CS group session, they said CS acceptance rate was ~9.7%, idk the stats for UCLA overall

I just know many many people that didn’t mind plunking down the $70 to spin the wheel on UCLA since they didn’t have to do a separate app. That’s why I think that 80K+ application number is a bit foo foo. Still tough to get in no doubt.

Why is that even factored into the ‘meaningfulness’ of the acceptance rate?
Regardless of whether applicants simply checked an additional box or had to do hella supplements, they still applied. People with low stats, high stats, etc. It has nothing to do with acceptance rate, because the caliber of applicants would likely be the same regardless.

“In total, UCLA admitted 18.2 percent of the 86,521 high school seniors who applied for fall 2014 admission.”

UCLA was more selective than Berkeley for California residents (16.3% vs. 18.8%).

http://www.ucop.edu/news/factsheets/2014/fall-2014-admissions-table2.pdf

UCLA having a slightly lower admit rate isn’t necessarily more selective than Cal.
Cal admits have a higher average GPA and SAT.

Actually Cal had a slightly lower admit rate this year and in 2012.

So what if UCLA has lower acceptance rate than UCB, maybe because there are more people in Southern California than Northern California. A lot of kids from Southern California don’t always apply to UCB but apply to UCLA.
