UCLA SAT SCORES

I'm so confused. Some say that UCLA accepts majority of students with SAT scores of about 1700 and above? Is that true? Why is the admit rate so low then?

“Some” are wrong. Look here.http://www.aim.ucla.edu/pdf/UGProfile12-13.pdf

I know a couple of people with 1700’s, but they’re all URMs, and tbh, they’re not doing well in classes here.

Race is not a deciding factor in admissions. There is a small amount of URMs that get into UCLA with low SAT scores because of UCLA’s “holistic approach.”

It’s supposedly not a deciding factor, but if we’re being honest, I don’t know any non-URMs with 1700’s that have gotten into schools better than Irvine. I think the holistic approach aspect is a cop out. It’s basically a way to incorporate race into admissions without explicitly saying you are.

Hmm UCLA has managed to maintain a decent percentage of Hispanic students, for example…Although that might be because most admits are instate, and Hispanics are now the majority in CA.

The admit rate is low because of the sheer number of applicants. This year I believe we broke 100,000 and they try to keep the incoming class size around the same size. They won’t expand the size of the incoming freshman class just because more people are applying. Trust me, nobody wants that. We already have enough trouble getting classes as it is.

Yeah, the UCs already accept a huge number of applicants as it is. The admit rate may be low, but the number of admits is still pretty big. Add the CA budget cuts & say goodbye to the possibility of a larger class.
