UCLA am i a commuter or am i living off campus?

I'll be starting my sophomore year at UCLA in the fall, and I just received my efan and it's asking me to confirm whether or not i'll be living off campus (like i originally put) or if I'll be a commuter. I'm not sure which i am. I'll be commuting to UCLA but I won't be living with my family or relatives, I'll be living with my boyfriend. UCLA defines off-campus as living in an apartment, frat, or sorority and defines commuter as living with family or relatives. PLEASE HELP

You are living off campus.

Off-campus, but technically, if you get in a car in LA, you are commuting!

I imagine the intent is “off campus” means you are paying for room and board, whereas “commuting” means you are not.

what if i’m paying rent to my boyfriend’s grandma? does that count for sure then as off-campus, as you guys stated the difference is whether i’m paying rent or not?

Commuters live with their family members. You are renting a room from a landlady who accidentally happens to be related to your boyfriend.

You are an OFF-Campus student because you ARE paying RENT to a NON Family member.

It looks like you are off-campus based on their definitions. But the other thing to consider is your home of record. If the apartment you share with your boyfriend is your permanent home of record (where college bills are sent, the address listed on your drivers license, etc) the you really are a commuter, because you commute from your home to school on a daily basis. If you officially still live with your parents, but are staying in the apartment during the school term, then you live off campus.
