I know statewide, schools are getting budget cuts. I'm just wondering how it has affected UCLA (and perhaps you directly). Is it harder to get classes? Are there fewer opportunities available? Also, would you say the quality of education has decreased?

Basically, is it still worth it to go to UCLA?

I personally have never had problems getting into the classes I’ve needed, but I came into UCLA with a sophomore standing because of all of my AP/community college units, so I had a better enrollment time. I’m a biology major by the way.

I definitely think it’s still worth it to go to UCLA. At a private school, you’re babied more, but when it really comes down to it, all you need to do to succeed is be very self-motivated.

A lot of engineers have to stay longer than 4 years because some of their classes are only offered once a year, however. I think that’s pretty common, though.

I know far more people that are graduating early than are staying extra quarters, by the way. My roommate is taking on two minors because she can. My other roommate is graduating a quarter early. I will only be taking one class next spring - and it’s not really a class, it’s just research. So, as long as you plan well, you’ll be fine.

If you think you’ll be happy here, that’s the most important thing. My friend goes to UPenn and she absolutely hates it, and her health - both mental and physical - has suffered because of it. So don’t just pick a school solely based on rankings/prestige!

Good luck! :)

^Kind of off-topic, but you just made me even more excited about attending UCLA :)

Good! You should be! UCLA is amazing. I couldn’t imagine going to school anywhere else. :)
