UCLA Chances

Hello! I was just hoping for some outside criticism on my chances at UCLA. It's my top choice but I'm not getting too hopeful just encase. UCSD and UCSB are my next choices so hopefully I get into one of those as well haha. Without further ado, here is a breakdown of my accomplishments. (All a-g requirements will have been fulfilled by senior year).

Freshman Year: I took 3 "Accelerated" classes and 3 regular and got a 3.33 first semester and 3.83 second semester. Together I got a 3.58.

Sophomore Year: I had 2 honors, 2 AP, and 2 regular classes and got a 3.83 first semester (4.17 weighted) and 3.66 (4.00 weighted). My GPA dropped since for half the second semester there was some family stuff going on. Together I got a 3.75 (3.96 weighted).

Junior Year (current): I have 5 AP classes and 1 honors class. I got a 3.83 (4.67 weighted) first semester and I plan on getting a 4.00 (4.83 weighted) second semester which I'm sure I can do since it is mostly review for the class I got a B in. I also plan on raising all my 4 A minuses to normal A's this semester, but we'll see about that one. :P Together I have a 3.93 (4.75 weighted).

Senior Year: I will take 5 AP and 1 regular class to show that I am continuing to challenge myself beyond junior year.

SAT/ACT: I have yet to take them but I plan on getting about a 2000-2100 on the SAT and a 31-32 on the ACT. I've taken a few practice exams and consistently end up around those areas so I hope I can pull those off on the real exams or better!

Extracurricular Activities: Link Crew (3 years, one as a comissioner), Tutor (3 years), Key Club (3 years), NHS (2 years, 1 as secretary), CSF (4 years), volunteer at dentist office (4 years), Recycle Club (3 years, 1 as VP and one as President), tennis (4 years, 1 as captain), and I'm pretty sure (90% sure) getting a job for job experience this year and the next.

My school is ranked 1216th (silver division) in the nation if that matters at all. I also want to point out that my GPA has gradually increased from freshman to junior year which is something that people say matter for college. Thank you ahead of time for your help!

You’re certainly a qualified applicant, and you have a solid chance at UCLA (especially if you’re a Cali resident).
Good luck! :)

Thanks a lot, I am.

Bump, hoping for more insight! :)

You are a great applicant!! Good news: I think UCLA would love to see your app! Bad news: there’s tons of ideal applicants just like you, so you gotta stand out! Make sure to continue your EC’s and write a great personal statement.

Make sure you allot enough time to prepare for your SAT if you aim for a high score because sometimes students who are great at school struggle on standardized testing. If you haven’t started yet, START NOW. Trust me! Take the test in May and subject tests in June then take the SAT again in October if you need to take it again. Don’t cram right before either, it doesn’t work if you’re looking for a dramatic chance in SAT score.

I think that you will get into both UCSB and UCSD on your current track. You should also consider UC Berkeley! You’re a great candidate.

Best of luck.

Chance back: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1617896-chance-me-michigan-usc-ucsb-syracuse.html#latest

Thanks! I actually just had a talk with my English teacher today and she said the same thing about other applicants. So hopefully I can write a great personal statement and just wish for the best next year!

It’s hard to chance you since you don’t have all the final stats yet, SAT, GPA, SAT II, ACT. Expected and actual scores sometimes vary.

Yeah, by the end of this year all of that stuff will be figured out. Are subject tests recommended? I’m not particularly good in any one subject except biology and geometry but I haven’t take biology in a year and I’m not taking AP biology till next year.

It depends on the major, for Eng’g, they are “recommended”, read required. The trick is to take them when taking the corresponding AP Test.

Oh, thanks. I only have taken APWH and APES, both of which I passed barely xD
