My D has friends who were accepted to Harvard, Princeton and Stanford, but rejected from UCLA. Not because UCLA is harder to get into, but rather because somehow UCLA sensed that it was a “safety” for them, and wanted to increase their yield rate. Too many of D’s friends consider UCLA and UCB safeties, so they re-used common app essays or only half-heartedly answered the questions that were asked. No-one is a shoo-in for these schools.

@theleakers

don’t be so pessimistic. Who knows? I think you underestimate yourself too much. Is UCLA your top choice?

I’ll look forward to your post once decisions are released.

^^^
exactly don’t be so down on yourself @the leakers

and yea I know Penn is a super reach for me but i’ve seen others on CC with stats similar to mines and sometimes even lower who got in so there’s still that slight chance that maybe I can get in lol
And besides, even if the acceptance rate for people within a range of scores is low like say less than 2% you gotta think to yourself, “Hey why can’t I be part of that less than 2%?” It’s all about positive energy lol

applied to CalTech (0% chance) UCB (10% chance), UCLA (20% chance), UCSD (30% change), but I am pretty sure I will get into one of my safety schools (UCI, UCSB)
so I think I will be all right regardless of the outcome, it is just the wait that is killing me …

h4ileyst4r

here you go, that is the spirit !!! I have high hopes for you …

@theleakers

what are your numerical stats? are you OOS?

now i’m curious…

@impetuous, I will let you know how everything ends up, good luck to you …

@impetuous

I am in state, UW GPA 3.8, W GPA 4.1, SAT 2130, ACT 35
applying for Computer Science
regular EC, nothing to write home about …

Yea I have ELC so I’m in UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara which are pretty good schools so if all else fails, I still have these schools to fall back on along lol
Me and my friend were like the worse that can happen is go to UC Davis… which is a great worse case scenario lol

@theleakers

you’ll get in.

but there seems to be so much randomness in the admission process …
the engineering department sent out a likely email a few days ago, I did not get one, so I am not as optimistic as you are, but we will see …

^^^
I agree
@theleaker I’d say that the odds are in your favor with that ACT score

@theleakers

Well if you only had 2130 SAT I would have said that you have a 50/50 chance but with a 35ACT and in state status I will be very surprised if you don’t make it.

Stop worrying. You do realize that the majority of the applicants have way worse stats than you right? you’re making all the average applicants feel bad.

I’m an international (and asian) so I’m not very optimistic but I would say I have a 50/50 chance.

@impetuous, best of luck to you …
you have any safety school line up ???

@theleakers

Well actually my “lowest” schools in the US are Michigan UCLA and Berkeley. (which is ironic because they are matches for me at best). I’m fully prepared to get rejected by all these schools so no I don’t really have safeties in the US.

I have 3 offers from the UK though (King’s College, Edinburgh and Warwick) and will apply to schools in Korea if I don’t get into my top choices in the US.

So you guys have been mentioning about how UCLA updated website for admitted students section to 2011. Can anyone tell me when exactly they did that (as in today, yesterday, etc)?
Thanks guys!

Potentially 25.5 hours left lol.

:))

@parallelreality, you are our official countdown person !!!

this wait is killing me 25.25 hours left !!!

^^ Haha, lol. Thanks theleakers Just don’t expect hourly updates haha.

hourly updates ??? are you insane ???

I expect a minute by minute countdown !!!

our next 4 years is on the line, you know …

haha…u guys are funny…

so are we sure that the result is gonna come out tomr afternoon?
