UCLA Class of 2020 Applicant Discussion

Does getting an invitation to apply for ucla regents mean that you won’t get an invitation for ucb regents? I heard that it is rare for people to get invited to apply for both ucb and ucla regents…

So my friend received the email from UCLA and CAL. I didn’t receive it from either. Guess which friend is getting in and which isn’t :((

@OCgirl12 A very select few get the invitation and a vast majority of the people who get accepted do not get regents.
All hope is not lost.

For the alum scholarship, where do we find the “scholarship application ID” to give our recommenders?

Also UCB alumni (not sure about UCLA) invites (not regents) is sent to everyone who applied i guess…

@bubsbubbles It’s your UC App ID number.

@benkenobi Not everyone got the UCB or UCLA alumni invitations, but everyone is welcome to apply.

alright so…all of the regents notifications have been sent out?

So, D received UCLA alumni invitation last week (as did everyone it seems) then today just received one from the specific department she applied to. I know it doesn’t mean anything and hate looking into it for some type of sign but yet…I’m doing it! So can someone please chime in and give me another dose of reality. Thanks.

@sjftlg not everybody recieved the Alumni scholarship invite. Only about 10 kids (out of 37 who applied) from my school recieved it. I don’t know if it is of any signifiacnce, but around 10 kids were accepted last year.

I didn’t get an Alumni scholarship invite :frowning: so yeah it probably means something

@cpretiz I think the admissions office sends people with strong GPA’s and ACT/SAT’s to the alumni association and then those kids get the invite. Just because you didn’t receive the invite doesn’t mean you will not be admitted because the admissions officers will look for more than just GPA and ACT. Don’t worry yourself too much. The best we all can do is wait. Good Luck!!!

I got one, but my SAT is nothing great

Perhaps they consider extracurriculars too?

Has anyone else read this article?

@bruin2020 Yeah, thanks :slight_smile: I can’t wait for March!!!

but what about regents??? do the invites come in waves?? is it all over? :frowning: also is it true what i hear about it being very rare to get both cal and ucla regent invites? b/c berk matters way more to me so if thats true i wont be too bummed. any info is much appreciated!

UCLA regents invite does not come in waves. If you have not gotten one by now, it is probably over.

It IS rare to get both Cal and UCLA regents invites, but not because the schools affect each other’s decisions; getting Cal regents and UCLA regents are independent events. Of course, since getting either one is hard, getting both is even harder. But again, not because getting one stops you from getting the other.

Congrats to everyone who got regency!! If you are invited to apply for regency, what are the chances of actually getting regents? Also, to people who got the invite, does your portal look different now? Congrats again! I didn’t get it :frowning: but really hoping that I’ll get in UCLA!

@vi0linmonster Hi! 100 students are offered the regency scholarship. The top 1.5% of all UCLA applicants + 600 transfer applicants are invited to apply. There were more than 119,000 students who applied to UCLA undergrad this year. So, if you do the math, about 4.2% of all invited students actually get the scholarship. Very competitive!

@vi0linmonster And no, I was invited to apply for regents but my portal does not look any different. It still says my application is under review.
