I really really hope that the alumni scholarship is a posative thing!
how was your invite worded? @bruin2020
What major did everyone apply for? (I chose Linguistics & Psychology)
Political Science @dashley
@lyannastark I think that everyone’s invite was worded the same. Mine starts out
“Apply For A UCLA Alumni Scholarship”
" Dear bruin2020
Since 1936, a select group of distinguished Bruins have had the honor of being known as Alumni Scholars. We invite you to apply for one of UCLA’s most prestigious scholarships, offered by the Alumni Scholarships Program. Out-of-State Scholarships provide an outstanding opportunity for highly accomplished students from outside of California to help fund their UCLA education.
This is a wonderful opportunity to possibly receive a merit-based scholarship ranging from $4,000 to $20,000, and to be a member of the esteemed Alumni Scholars Club. Being an Alumni Scholar is more than just receiving a scholarship. Scholars are involved in campus events and organizations, increase their connections to the university, build their leadership skills, and stay involved as alumni.
Please visit https://alumni.ucla.edu/scholarships/prospective-students/ for full details.
Deadline to apply: Friday, Feb. 26, 11:59pm
We look forward to receiving your application.
Go Bruins!

The wording of it just seems posative. Also the fact that only a fraction of the kids who applied, in my school at least, recieved this invite makes me hopeful.
I hope I’m not being too optimistic tho!
@dashley I applied as Linguistics and English! You’re like the first other person I’ve seen applying as a linguistics major lol
@lyannastark, I have no idea what it is based on.
S has been invited to apply for the Alumni Scholarship, and he also got invited for the Regents. Today he got a phone call asking him to apply for the Alumni (or maybe it was checking to see if he had finished applying) but his call got dropped. Does anyone know what they say on the call? I know some people posted on here about it but I can’t find their posts.
I just got the call and I was told that the Alumni scholarship essays can overlap with the UC essays. Can anyone confirm this?
I just got an email but I never got a call…unless I was not there to answer it.
Just checked my phone and it says that I had two missed calls from a number in the LA area. One on the 30th and the other this past Friday oh nooooooooo
@papyrusreed I heard the same. I believe that the alumni association does the reviewing of the scholarship submission and not the admissions committee. That’s why they ask us to list all our activities all over again just like how it was on the UC application. They wouldn’t have us re-list everything if they could just pull our UC app and read the activities. It’s redundant. My 2nd essay is pretty much one of my UC essays. PM me for anything else!
Thanks @lyannastark! Btw, nice username I can’t wait until April for Season 6!
Did anybody get notified for the “Bunche alumni scholarship” and not the “Freshman Alumni Scholarship”? According to the UCLA website, both are of the same financial merit and are both Alumni Scholarships.
@papyrusreed, is that all it said, was that the essays can overlap?
@Mysonsdad yes, I believe that it was the purpose of the call. She also wanted to make sure that I received the invitation and that I was applying. Did anyone else get a call besides @lyannastark and I?
I am not even sure if it was from UCLA. It has a LA area code and I received two calls from it. @papyrusreed
I received a regents invitation last week and am still amazed; my scores are NOWHERE near the top 2% of applicants
In-State
SAT: Superscore-2000
Single Sitting-1990
Full IB schedule, Diploma Candidate
GPA: 4.44 UC Weighted
3.4 Unweighted*
IB Exam scores: Math Studies-6
Spanish SL-5
Good EC’s, a few leadership roles, a founding member of almost everything (because I go to a very new school)
Great essays, had them proofread by my english teacher that is usually a harda** and she said they were amazing
*My GPA used to be higher, but in the 2nd semester of Junior year my grandma got pancreatic cancer and so my mom went across the country to be with her, and so I was the stay-at-home mom to my 2 younger siblings which really hurt my grades
With all of this in mind, I was completely sure I got the Regents invite as a mistake. That turned out not to be the case, and I submitted my application a couple days ago.
is there a study abroad program plus working at the same time in UCLA?
you can learn about their study abroad program here: http://ieo.ucla.edu/uceap
