@JuicyMango Just wanted to tell you that my kid didn’t really get flat out denied by UCLA. Apparently, the letter offered him an option of going on the waitlist if he wanted. He rightfully declined to open up a spot for someone who really wanted to attend UCLA. Therefore, he was waitlisted instead of denied.

@websensation Oh ok, thanks for the info. Waitlist and rejection letters look scarily similar, so it’s understandable that one could miss the difference the first time around.

Good for your son that he is giving others (who really want to go to UCLA) a chance. I know a lot of people who accepted their waitlist spot even though they wouldn’t actually go. I’ve come to terms with my rejection because I realized I never had an actual desire to go to the school. Some way or another admissions officers knew, and I was rightfully denied. Or maybe it was just cause I’m a weaker applicant. Who knows.

Anyway, thanks again for letting me know.

@klassickorean I haven’t received a letter either. I live in Ohio.

Daughter got into UCLA for Computer Engineering, as well as UC Berkeley, UCSB, UCSD, USC, UCI, UCD and Cal Poly SLO. So she has to choose between these schools. How does UCLA’s Computer Engineering Department compare to the other schools? She’s not excited about Berkeley, UCI and UCD, so she’s mainly choosing between UCLA, UCSB, UCSD and Cal Poly.

Anyone here taking the IB Diploma?

@gavarno88 I take the IB diploma

Accepted into UCLA College of Letters and Science

3.4 UC GPA
33 ACT
No subject tests, 2 AP’s to report (4 and a 5) from 2016, 3 AP’s being taken this year.
No awards, lot of volunteering at local church, ex-athlete.
Was really proud of my essays and poured my heart into them. You hear it millions of times, but being your authentic self is the best quality of any application. Even though I had a bad GPA and no real awards/achievements to offer, I was still able to show why I was a good candidate for UCLA through my essays. If your voice is powerful enough, it will get heard.

@windypoplars Of those schools you listed, Cal Poly has the best computers program and great job opportunities at google as soon as she graduates.

Pl help

UMICH LSA HONORS CS or UCLA ENGG CS

PL advise

You’ll get a good education and a job when you graduate with either school, as long as you apply yourself.

Are you a CA resident? If yes, then UCLA. Are you a MI resident? If yes, then UMich. $100K in your pocket (or less debt) when you graduate could be useful.

If you’re out of state for both: Do you like snow? If no, then UCLA. If yes, then UMich.

@rocket88 my question is Computer science with engineering degree or Computer SCience with LSA honors degree. I hav got into UMICH LSA HONORS and UCLA ENGG.

@windypoplars If she got Regents at one of her top choices, it could make a big difference. Just saw you started a thread in the Parents Forum.
