@coffee1999 It just means they made their decision based on your UC app and did not need any extra information to decide.
Those who got it, it means you are a borderline applicant and they are on the fence about your decision. It is your chance to explain something that may have been lacking in your application or to give new information that may sway them to accept you. They also ask for your fall grades.
Make sure to really take your time on the essays. Having all A’s for fall grades will not be enough to convince them to let you in. In my school last year two girls who received the supplemental had the same exact classes. One got straight A’s in the fall, the other got all A’s and a B in AP Calc and the girl with the B got in while the other one got rejected. I read both of their supplemental essays and the girl with the B wrote essays so much more thought out and impressive than the other girl. Content matters, take them seriously. The key is to go into FURHER NEW details do not just rehash what is already in your application.
Only about 5% of applicants receive the supplemental information request. Don’t worry if you didn’t get it, it just means their decision about you has already been made.
@UCLAstan So since a lot of people still haven’t gotten decisions, will regents take a while to come? Or are does the email mean they aren’t being considered?
@JuicyMango even if they’ve made decisions they aren’t releasing any until mid to late march.
if you got the supplemental email you probably aren’t one of the ones who got the regents.
however i do know someone who got a supplemental and got the alumni scholarship, and she did not get the email to apply to the alumni scholarship. she just did it anyway and got it.
So, to clarify: When should an applicant get an email asking him or her to apply for an alumni scholarship? And if we don’t get an email invitation, how likely is it that we would get a scholarship? i.e. is it worth it to go through the alumni scholarship application if you haven’t been invited, when you still don’t know whether you’ve even been accepted at UCLA? Wouldn’t it make more sense to give people admission decisions before requiring them to fill out a separate scholarship application?
@rocket88 The application will be due before admission results are released. We can’t change that thats their system.
Is it worth it ? I think yes because it is a 4 year renewable scholarship. Plus alumni scholars are an exclusive club with many benefits such as access to Test Banks, Free tutoring, social events, mentor programs, and other things like pre-law pre-health panels and presentations.
I have a friend who last year applied to the scholarship. She was not invited to apply but did it anyway and she received the scholarship, so it can be done. She is getting 6.000 dollars a year, renewable. She wasn’t even sure she would get in because she received a supplemental information request but she did it anyway and it all worked out. worth it!
Just do it anyway, What if you do end up getting into UCLA you’ll regret not applying for the scholarship.
@Banker1 The New York Times recently published an article studying the income demographics of top schools. UCLA is the #1 elite college with the highest percentage of low- and middle-income students at ~20%. So, including UCLA athletes (a lot), alumni merit scholars, etc., it would somewhat make sense that half of students pay little to nothing.
A little asterisk with alumni scholarships is they are renewable depending on GPA. And I think that’s a 3.5. UCLA is known for grade deflation so beware. Best bet is to not count on that to pay for schooling over 4 years.
@10s4life DUDE No. the alumni scholarship does not require a 3.5 ucla gpa to renew. What you need is to be in good academic standing which is a 2.0 gpa minimum and as long as you’re on pace to graduate in 4 years unit-wise.
