@brooklynilene Last year’s 2020 page was much more active than this year’s.
@vicangie that is correct, because UCLA does not break A’s down into A-'s and A+'s
@10s4life do you think a 4.24 capped and 4.71 uncapped would fall into the range of what HSSEAS is looking for in terms of freshman applicants to computer science?
@ETH2355 Yeah that’s a really solid GPA. Mine was
UW 4.0
Capped: 4.4
Uncapped: 4.68.
But I applied for EE which is easier.
Lol guys @ETH2355 @10s4life you’re golden
I have
UW: 3.8
Capped: 4.07
Uncapped: 4.57
(11 AP’s total 10 & 11)
ACT: 35
I don’t think you guys have anything to worry about. My capped GPA is on the low side, but I’m hoping my uncapped, course rigor, and ACT can help make up for it. I’m applying to L&S.
@10s4life Wait sorry I just realized that you’re already attending UCLA! Did you get Regents/Chancellors?
please tell me how capped gpa /uncapped gpa is calculated.
@scifan lol, mine really isn’t that good. I have a 3.71 UW. I just took all AP or honors courses. I am very happy UCs this year are considering out of state honors courses as honors.
@10s4life Thanks for the insight.
the UC policy on Honors course for OOS students see here:
http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/q-and-a/honors/
No changes from prior years as far as I’m aware. The summary is that not all courses considered honors are actually honors which is true for in state as well and that honors courses for OOS do not get weighted when calculating UC GPA.
@Banker1 I am not exactly sure where I saw. It might have been on the site somewhere or on the application itself, but I am pretty sure I saw that they changed it. I may be wrong, though. Hopefully not though because that might cause some issues.
@Banker1 This is the site I was talking about: http://ucop.edu/agguide/a-g-requirements/honors/index.html
Of course, I may be interpreting this incorrectly
@ETH2355: the link you referenced just states that HS’s can submit Honors courses that meet these guidelines for UC approval. If your HS does not submit for approval, then you do not get the honors points.
This may be completely a wrong interpretation. However, I peruse YouTube and look at things online, and consistently I come across people who claim “I scored _____ on my ACT, and got in to Berkeley!” Or I had this ____ GPA, and I was accepted to Berkeley". These people usually boast a low GPA or test score and are an extreme outlier. On one hand, I wonder, are these applicants a product of a holistic application where they had extracurriculars, essays etc that outweighed low scores, or in a more cynical perspective, are they just the evidence of how big of a crapshoot the college admissions process is?
Honestly, I ask because these types of stories I see really give me hope that despite being OOS with a 3.8GPA and 28 ACT I have a chance because of my ECs and essays.
And though those instances were from Berkeley applicants, I thought perhaps there is a correlation. Asking for others opinion on this.
@scifan No I did not get regents or chancellors. I’m just happy to be here
anyone receive the invitaion of Alumni scholarships? or do we apply by ourselves?
Can someone or anyone answer or contribute feedback to my above statements on the other page?? Really curious.
When colleges have an average or range of GPAs and test scores, those are, again, the average. They accept people both above and below those averages. If they were comparing two applicants with perfect stats but one had good extracurriculars and essays and the other didn’t, they’d likely go with the applicant with the good ones. That being said, colleges still care about your stats. Being accepted with lower-than-average stats means you were accepted in spite of them, not because of them. However, yours aren’t bad! No one is a shoe in for any school, but no one is impossible either. In my opinion, if you work hard on your application and submit it, you have a chance. We never know for sure what an admissions counselor is looking for in a particular class.
@cj02523 thank you very much for your response and feedback. I definitely worked very hard on mine, and I guess we will find out in March.
