Hi, I expect to transfer to UCLA from a Californian CC with a major kind of related to, but not, CS. Unfortunately, I could not take Data Structures at my community college so I have to take it there. I heard that DataStructures (CS 32) is extremely difficult, especially for projects 3 and 4. I have slides from UCLA and I plan on studying and practicing for the whole summer and the time I have before I take the class once school begins. Any suggestions? Is the class really that difficult? Is there any difference if I take it in Spring instead of Winter? What can I do starting from now to succeed in the class? Do you think it is harder than what they offer at CC?
Thanks!
I’d pose the question in the UCLA forum.

I would honestly start stressing about this if you find out if you’re admitted yet. But to answer your question CS 32 is really hard. It’s arguably the class that ultimately weeds out many CS majors. The projects are long (800-3000+) lines of code. Winter is harder than spring because the projects differ. If you want to practice for the class just be really comfortable with coding large projects and know control flow, dynamic memory, and pointers really well.
