That's reassuring to know, thanks Citan.

According to Dean Dhir's speech at Engineering Week in Spring 2005, the average HSSEAS freshman admit for Fall 2004 had a ~4.25 fully-weighted GPA and just over a 1400 SAT I (old system) score. Since two years have now passed, and UCLA Electrical Engineering remains one of the most impacted majors for admission, I would estimate that the average admit stats would have increased slightly, to a ~4.30 fully-weighted GPA and 2130 on the SAT I (new system). Besides GPAs and SATs, I think the most important thing for admission is the strength of your courseload.

I would have advised that your son learn C++ in advance, but it's too late now, I'm afraid. CS 31 starts from scratch with respect to students' programming knowledge. However, most of the curve-setters in that course are already familiar with C++ and/or Java, from either high school AP Computer Science classes or self-study.

I wouldn't really care too much about all the kids who have had previous experience programming...most of the beginning stuff, atleast prior to pointers, is pretty easy.

Your fellow engineers await -- I will be staffing the "ACM" table in person.
Seats are running out; R.S.V.P. at the link above.

Are we allowed to leave after lunch? I want to go to Santa Monica for the beach / water sports thing at aroudn 12:30

Is the Engineering Welcome Day even helpful for transfer students?

how do i go about declaring my double major? do i talk to a college counlser or just take the major prep classes? or what?

Walk to the HSSEAS Office of Academic and Student Affairs at 6426 Boelter Hall, and there's a stack of forms on the front counter that you can fill out to petition for a double major, as well as schedule an HSSEAS counseling appointment. It's best to get the petition approved before taking the coursework for your second major.

is that teh one where i have to write a letter to dean jacobsen saying why i want to double major and the planned quarterly sched with like unites to complete both majors and units required for graduation? any tips on doing that?

I'm not sure. I don't remember the form too clearly.

does UCLA have the requirement for admited engineering transfer students to graduate within 2 years?

I'm assuming no, since most of the HSSEAS transfers I know took three years to graduate.

Free printing for engineering students? i heaard that somewhere bu i still got charged in my bar account? did i miss hear?

free printing for 150 pages if you're in esuc
and I heard something like printing discounts (2 cents/page) with a seasnet account

What other benefits are there for being a member of ESUC? (except for the membership card, shirt, and 150 pages)

Free printing is for ESUC members: up to 150 pages from the ESUC lounge.
Your BAR account will be charged if you print from the SEASnet workstations.
ESUC members also get discounts on attending social events.

oh ok so no free printing from seasnet?

No.

2 cents is actually pretty cheap....
