hey flopsy, how many semester(or quarters) of chemistry does UCLA require transfer students to have completed before they transfer. i want to major in AE and am finishing up 1 semester of chem 1a but im not sure if i should take chem 1b next semester

How would you rank Smallberg, Nachenberg, and Rohr in terms of teaching?

Is a course load consisting of

CS 32
Math 32A
Physics 1A
CS 35L

managable for winter quarter in freshmen year?

Flopsy should give you a better opinion in CS professors, but here are mines:

1) Smallberg
2) Nachenberg
3) Rohr

Smallberg and Nachenberg received similar reviews: thumbs up.

But I feel Smallberg is slightly overrated in teaching.

Rohr should be avoided because he is not a pure lecturer? I hear he mumbles a lot too, and isn't quite effective ..

Carey is good in that he gives his notes as handouts, so you can follow through.

[ol]
[]Smallberg
[]Nachenberg
[li]Rohr[/li][/ol]

Taking CS 32, Math 32A, Physics 1A, CS 35L is manageable. That's one very hard course (CS 32) one medium course (Physics 1A) and two easy courses (Math 32A, CS 35L).

Would you say that it is easier getting as undergrad if I apply for a Mech. Engineering major as opposed to an Electrical Engineering major?

Of course, EE is one of the most (if not the most) competitive engineering majors to get into for undergrad.

Flopsy:

If one had a GPA of under 3.00 in the engineering major, and doesn't plan on going to graduate school, are there any setbacks?

How would the job opportunities look like?

How would the job opportunities look like?
Yes, there are setbacks to having a sub-3.00 GPA; there are a few companies that do set 3.00 as the cut-off GPA for certain entry-level positions. You still shouldn't have trouble finding jobs if you manage your connections and/or get an internship, though. I have a friend who just graduated from UCB EECS in Spring 2006 with a <2.50 GPA and got hired by an undisclosed SoCal defense contractor right out of graduation, so anything's possible...

Wow, I was also wondering if a sub 3.00 would affect getting an intern.
And also, do most engineers get over 3.0+ freshmen year? Because I'm not sure if I will .. and I don't want to feel screwed.

Yes, getting a <3.00 GPA affects your internship chances.
About half of all freshman engineers start with a 3.00 GPA or above.

Wow this sucks. I mean, engineers under 3.00 would eventually get a job, right? It just depends who the will work for, how much they get paid, and if they get it right away?

get above a 3.0, lets go!

Most engineers eventually get a job.

is engineering one of the more competitive majors to get into? And if so, which of the engineering subjects are the least competitive?

Yes, of course. Civil and materials engineering.

What BoelterHall said.

thanks. i should probably go in undeclared then

How tough is it to get into UCLA Comp Sci? I've heard that across the nation there has been a decrease in interest in this field. Is this a good sign for hopefuls like me?
