one more quick question...
some one told me that PIC10A is a weeder class...
is that true?

That's up to you. Both majors are equally competitive, if you ask me.

Also, PIC 10A is a weeder class, though not as competitive as CS 31.
It depends on how many pre-Communications majors are in a given class.

Dear Flopsy,
Is it true that if you're in HSSEAS, you're give a 4.3 GPA with a full spending spree to pimp your ride if your roommate commits seppuku with a frisbee?

TB54

(Note: 11 hours of being in the HSSEAS lab and looking at matrices has taken a toll on me. Could also be the anhydrous caffeine, mmhh tasty!)

hey, if you petition to transfer into HSSEAS, but they deny u the first time, is it wise to keep applying?

Only if your GPA stays above 3.50 by the time you're approaching Junior year.

Can anyone rate the difficulty of the Math 30 series?

31A:

And chemistry 20 series?

31A:B

33B:A

And chemistry 20 series?
20A:P
20B:I
20L:E

seriously though, what does it matter, you're gonna take them all anyway

lol i thought at first that was some sort of code.

my brain has melted and i still have another final.

haha i thought so too :p

31A: 3/10
31B: 7/10
32A: 5/10

20A: 8/10
20B: N/A
20L: N/A

im applying to ucla as a prospective CSE major...gpa is good but sat score is below the HSSEAS average...i know that ucla accepts roughly 25% of applicants but what is the percentage for those pursuing CSE?

The acceptance rate for CS/CSE is between 20-25%.

What do I need to get into UCLA Engineering?

Below is the academic profile for the admitted freshman class of Fall 2005, announced by Dean Dhir during his opening address at Engineering Week. These statistics were averaged among all majors, as well as among both in-state and out-of-state admits. I've also adjusted the SAT I score for the new scoring system.
[]UC GPA: ~4.15
[]Unweighted GPA: ~3.85
[]Weighted GPA: ~4.25
[]SAT I: ~2130
[li]SAT IIs: ~730 Math IIC, >700 other subject
[/li]Which are the most important factors to get into UCLA Engineering?

Listed in order of importance:
[ol]
[]UC GPA
[]SAT II scores (Recommended: Math IIC and either Physics/Chemistry/Biology E/M)
[]SAT I scores
[]Strength of high school course-work (including AP/IB courses)
[]UC Essay/extra-curriculars
[]Holistic details (?)[/ol]
Does my chosen major affect my chances at UCLA Engineering?

Yes. Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), Computer Science (CS) and Bioengineering (BioE) receive more applicants than Mechanical Engineering (ME), Aerospace Engineering (AE), Materials Science & Engineering (MSE), Civil & Environmental Engineering (CivE), and Chemical Engineering (ChE).

Will UCLA's holistic admissions policy affect my admission chances?

Probably not. The engineering student body at UCB has remained visibly unchanged since they instituted university-wide holistic admissions -- for this reason, I expect the student body of UCLA Engineering to remain unaffected as well.

^yay thanks for posting that, I feel more confident that I may get into Chem E ;]
Um, how many girls would you say major in Chem E? seriously I think I'm going to fail of Chem E because I'm not particularly good at physics...=x

edit//ahhhh I just read the previous pages and now I feel like I'm seriously going to get owned...and I want to go to grad school too. dlkjfklsjdfl insert swear words

im pretty sure this has been asked already somewhere, but there are many pages. how hard would it be if i wanted to switch from chem E to say like another engineering? or how about if i go from chem E to another "college"?

What are my chances looking like as a prospective CSE major?

gpa: 4.00
weighted gpa: 4.5-4.6
sat: 2040
math ii: 700
physics: 730

Just from those numbers will I have to prove myself on the essay or have terrific extracurriculars? I see that UCLA looks at SAT scores as being very important and obviously mine aren't up to par.

Changing majors out of the HSSEAS and into the CL&S is a matter of paperwork... Changing majors to another engineering major is also a matter of paperwork, provided that you apply for the change immediately as a freshman, so that HSSEAS can re-evaluate you based on your high school transcript.

how many girls are there in engineering?

littleitaly:

Assuming you are a California resident,
UCLA: Slight Reach (Engineering)

My estimate is: between 200 and 300.

So I'm guessing that HSSEAS really looks at SAT scores, unlike the university itself which likes to see the application "in its entirety." Does being ELC help my chances? What about an essay which demonstrates my willingness to learn? Yes, I'm a California resident, but that "slight reach" doesn't sound too good...
