I can't answer BoelterHall's question; I don't know anything about SRP. Most people just enroll into CS 199 to perform their research instead. Also, internships matter more than GPA for getting the first job.

Do people usually get more than one internship during the college career?

what's CS 199 like?

Does any one know who's a good TA for physics 4al?

i can tell you who NOT to get - tham tran. although, he does work with luca.... but he doesn't speak english! and he's really picky

I think i might have KAO?

[quote=rasenganx] Does any one know who's a good TA for physics 4al?
Victoria Yong.

darn she's not TAing this quarter. And is it odd to have two internships?

Hi flopsy, I think I've got a serious problem.

Right now, I'm in this math class from hell. No partial credit, 20 point midterms, etc. I've been getting the median for both midterms, and today the professor emailed us telling us that if you get 40% or less (which is the median), you are at "serious risk of failing". Oh, and he is very disappointed in all of us. Because he is a douchebag at grading. A + instead of a - does not merit 66% off. I honestly want to put my hands around his fat jowly neck and just squeeze really hard right now. But that is not possible, so... anyways

If I am lucky, I suppose I'll scrape by with a C. But, if I fail, I can retake the class right? IF I RETAKE THE CLASS NEXT QUARTER, what will happen to the non-passing grade on my transcript?

What do you suggest? I've already been studying (math is my life) and I've also got Covel tutoring, AND a private tutor and I don't know anymore.

I'm guessing this is Math 33B.

I think your professor is bluffing -- no one can set a C (the retake-ability threshold) as the median. He just wants everyone to take him seriously out of induced paranoia. Hypothetically, if you decide to retake the class after receiving a grade of C- or below, then it still stays on your transcript even after you've retaken it yet is also eliminated from your GPA calculation. Also, it's possible to retake the class without "failing" it -- technically, a grade of C- or D is considered a pass (i.e. you can enroll in and take the courses which required it as a prerequisite). In the meantime, go to your TA office hours and ask them if the professor is bluffing.

flopsy today i got a letter from hsseas regarding the faculty which has "recommended my application" does this mean i got in???

If you have read the numerous threads about this topic, then you would have found out "yes".

haha thanks! see you in september!

GO BRUINS!!!

Flopsy,

What is the typical grade distribution for engineering classes? ie. 10% get A's etc.

GrassPuppet: It depends on the professor...the EE2 class last year had 25% getting As...this year in my 102 class around 20% are...by As I mean both As and A-s

I just got that engineering letter for EE that is supposedly an acceptance, so now I have some questions. I was told to ask some engineering questions here.

Should I got to the engineering open house? I live like 7 hours away from UCLA.

Will I learn anything useful from it?

Is it likely I'll graduate in 4 or even 3 1/2 years if I take summer classes? I don't plan to take vacations or anything over the summer due to financial constraints.

Any other suggestions for an engineer, like internships or clubs to join?

Thanks for any responses!

Edit: 5. What math class would you recommend I start with? I am taking Calculus B/C at school right now and breezing by since I find it easy.

Congratulations.

20% A
35% B
40% C
5% D/F

[ol][]Yes, but I wouldn't miss a test because of it.
[]Yes. You'll meet the professors in your major and learn from their research, and answers to your questions will be spearheaded by them as part of the tour.
[]Yes. However, summer sessions might not be necessary -- if you come in with several courses' worth of AP credit for your lower-division courses, you won't need summer sessions to safely graduate in four years.
[]I recommend joining the engineering organization(s) that pertains to Electrical Engineering (IEEE, HKN, Robotics, etc.). There's one for every engineering major at UCLA. Also, it's never too early to plan whether to option in EECE or EEBioE.
[*]Math 32A.[/ol]

Your AP units should help cover around 2-4 classes (1 quarter average, 2 at max usually).

Though, if you want to take it easier during upper divs, where you will take 4 courses per quarter with lots of outside study, then take summer sessions.
