<p>BRING COFFEE. I swear I'm dying in this class. You'll just be sitting there looking at Weltman's power point slides at 8am in the morning and attendance is part of your grade. The only interesting thing so far is when Pro. Browne lectures, he's lectured twice so far on engineering accidents. Most of the lecturing is from Weltman, while Brown does 2-3 and Miller 1 or 2.</p>

<p>Here's another question, I should finish my math series with 33B over the summer at a CC near my home, this puts me at 11 units for fall 07 (Chem 30Al, Physics 4BL, and Physics 1C), I'm not sure if I'll be able to handle a class such as LS 2 along with the many hours I'll spend in labs, any suggestions? Relative difficulty of LS 2 and the others helps too : ) thanks!</p>

<p>Since I was admitted I have been having conflicting thoughts about my major of choice. I was thinking recently that I may prefer aerospace engineering in place of civil engineering with an environmental focus. My questions are: you recommendations given the size of the program -- how big are the classes? How competitive is it to change majors within the HSSEAS? How much more rigorous is the coursework in aerodynamics and studing rigid bodies? </p>

<p>Since I am a junior transfer I have taken all the pre-reqs, but I need to make the decision now before the engineering programs begin to diverge.</p>

<p>1st Qtr: Chem & Biochem 20A; English Comp 3; Math 31A
2nd Qtr: Chem & Biochem 20B/20L; Math 31B; Physics 1A
3rd Qtr: Math 32A; Physics 1B; Physics 4AL; GE Elective</p>

<p>Assume someone-
- jr year got A's in AP Physics and 5 on AP test (but it's been a while so probably needs to review/repeat)
- jr year got A's in Calc AB and 5 on AP
- sr year got A/B's in Calc BC and probably 4-5 on AP test (but wants to review/repeat before continuing)
- sr year got A-'s in AP Chem and probably gets 4-5 on AP test
- probably gets 4-5 on AP Eng Lit so doesn't have to take Eng Comp 3</p>

<p>I have worked as an engineer in both Aerospace and Environmental. Aerospace is a lot more interesting, but there are a lot of lay-offs and plant closures to contend with. A great many of the Aerospace plants in So. Calif have shut down in the past decade, and relocated out of state. (Autonetics, General Dynamics, Hughes, Rocketdyne, Teledyne Ryan) Environmental engineering is steadier work, due to the proliferation of environmental regulations the recent past. Good luck with your choice.</p>

At the upper-division level, engineering lectures have <60 students and engineering discussions have <30 students. It is not competitive to switch majors between CivE and MAE; you'll probably get your major change approved as long as you do apply before your classes start. I don't have any knowledge of how rigorous the MAE coursework is, sorry. :rolleyes:</p>

<p>You can't repeat courses that you've earned AP credit for. Wanting to review isn't accepted by the HSSEAS OASA. If you've already submitted, or opted to submit, those scores to UCLA, you're screwed...</p>

If you got a 5 on the AP Calc A/B test, you will have no problem with moving on to the next Calculus class in the series. That will make one less math class that you have to take.</p>

It's no big deal. Math 32A is actually closer to AP Calculus AB than AP Calculus BC. Also, I would recommend starting with three courses no matter what. :rolleyes:</p>

<p>I wonder how long 4BL will take. The TAs already said from your generation, your lab reports for 4AL were very short. Today they are 10+ pages.</p>

<p>I understand that running a circuit will take longer than playing with springs and dropping balls in 4AL. I wonder what the standards will be in 4BL.</p>
