Oh and I think I just saw Flopsy 15 minutes ago playing in the arcade. I think...?

It's pretty firm. You have to take Physics 1B regardless of how unprepared you are.

:P
You didn't see anything.

Congratulations on having the 1000th post.

I was actually standing next to you and watching that one really aggressive guy playing that game. He was all into it, it was pretty exciting.

THANKS EVERYONE!!!

Hmm... I am kinda lost... I thought we could not get out of Physics 1A...
I looked there, and it didnt mention getting out of a class =.

You can only do so with a passing score on E&M.

Hey flopsy, how difficult is EE100? I've heard very easy and nightmares with circuits.

I love it when he yells. He pounds the machine a lot, too.

I'm assuming you mean EE 10. I've never taken it, but I know it's very hard.

I was referring to:

Electrical and Electronic Circuits. (4)

Lecture, three hours; discussion, one hour; outside study, eight hours. Requisites: Mathematics 33A, 33B. Electrical quantities, linear circuit elements, circuit principles, signal waveforms, transient and steady state circuit behavior, semiconductor diodes and transistors, small signal models, and operational amplifiers.

I think it sounds harder than the EE10 said was hard, so I guess I shouldn't take EE100 with Physics 1C and 4BL huh?

Circuit Analysis will be the easiest things you take in EE so don't worry. There aren't a lot of formulas and the principles are easy to understand. You just have to pay special attention to how circuits are drawn because they can be drawn to deceive.

ee_stu:

How hard is circuit analysis compared to the electromagnetism and circuitry learned in Physics 1B?

Town Hall Meeting for HSSEAS Undergraduate Students Following the *2006-2007 Catalog

Hosted by Dean V.K. Dhir, Topic:

The Technical Breadth Requirement and the New Curriculum

CE, CS, CSE, EE, MSE majors - Wednesday, May 23, 2007

AE, BE, ChE, ME majors - Thursday, May 24, 2007

6:00 p.m. * 7:30 p.m.
Boelter Hall 3400

*intended for students following the 2006-07 catalog (students who were admitted to HSSEAS Fall06, Winter07, or Spring07, or changed majors effective Fall06,
Winter07 or Spring07 or who have petitioned to follow the 2006-2007 catalog)

Does anyone happen to know what changes this involves?

Nope. The event is probably not going to change anything, but rather act as a much-needed info-session for all the confused freshmen.

:) (10 char)

Boelter -

according to a second year ee friend of mine, it is much more in depth. 1b covers inductors, capacitors, resistors etc. in one quarter, and they spend one quarter each on resistors, etc, maybe more.

Pre-frosh question--sorry, but I'm confused about whether you have the choice of repeating something you get a 4-5 AP score in or not, specifically AP Chem, Physics and Calc BC.

Flopsy: "You can't repeat courses that you've earned AP credit for. Wanting to review isn't accepted by the HSSEAS OASA."

BoelterHall (re Physics 1A): "In all, people who've taken AP/IB Physics can get away without studying all quarter and still get an A." Did those pp take AP Physics the class but not the exam?

Someone else reco'd choosing to repeat Chem 20A if you need to really understand it for your major.

Basically, for an ME major Flopsy reco'd this (below) as pretty much the only option b/c of APs in Calc AB/BC, Chem and Physics (tho not since Jr year). I'm just wondering if there is a choice to repeat, or just take these and get ready to hit the ground running.

1st Qtr: Math 32A, Chem 20B/20L, GE (or Eng 3 if bomb the AP)
2nd Qtr: Math 32B, Physics 1B, Physics 4AL, GE
3rd Qtr: Math 33A, Physics 1C, MAE 94

An opportunity has come up (totally for fun) from early to mid July, meaning prolly going to orientation in late July (3rd or 4th session?). How popular are those classes and how likely are they to fill up in the first coupla sessions?

hiker, the thing is, I wanted to do exactly what you did first quarter, but I'm pretty sure 20B is NOT offered then. You'll have to wait a bit. Take 20A with Scerri for some fun.

or 20AH with Lin? haha nevermind, I wouldn't recommend it for ME, Scerri's class would be more interesting

(according to 06-07 announcement)
You need at least a 4 on Physics C - Mechanics to get out of Physics 1A, but you can take the class or use AP credit
5 on BC will get you out of 31A, and you can't take it, but for 31B you can take the class or use AP credit

heh well since your S is well ahead of the game, I would vote for doing the totally-for-fun opportunity.

You can take Chem20A and Physics1A even if you get a 5 on the AP test. However, you can choose to petition out of the courses as well.
