UCLA Engineering Q&A

Okay, how difficult is it relative to EE 102 or other courses? Please elaborate.

question
Ive heard that there is a management minor available for engineering students, is this true?

No, there is no management minor for engineering students. However, there was a new management course (Engineering 188: Entrepreneurship) this Spring, and Computer Science majors can technical-minor in Management.

This is a misconception for some people. There isn't a management minor at UCLA, but there is one for most schools. If your goal is an MBA along the engineering future, then it is best to take some management courses.

GrassPuppet: EE113 is very similar to EE102. While EE102 is continuous time, EE113 is discrete time. So you see topics like Z-transforms instead of Laplace Transforms and DTFT instead of Fourier Transform. But I would say that EE113 is more difficult than EE102 because of the concepts. It takes a little more time to grasp. In terms of difficulty compared to other courses, it was definitely not the most difficult. Out of all the courses I have taken so far EE103 and Math 132 have been the toughest. I would put EE113 slightly above EE102 in terms of difficulty, but I guess a lot depends on the professor too.

Citan, I've heard that the professor teaching Math 132 this summer is really easy. Too bad we took it during winter.

Jacobsen is teaching EE103 this coming up fall. Anyone knows if he's good or bad? I've read mixed reviews on bruinwalk. And Joshi is teaching EE1 but that's the only section so I don't really have a choice.

haha jacobsen is hard...I saw his homework from a previous quarter and it seems that he makes up his own problems. good luck to whoever is taking that class. I took it with Comanor and I can proudly say that I didn't learn **** in that class....I thank god every day that it's over.

would i be able to take the engineering management course as a 2nd- year?

102A is filling up a lot faster than I expected (24/30 as of now)

If I don't make it, will the professor let me in anyways, since it is an upper div engineering course?

Sure. There are no pre-requisites.

weee, anyone know anything about the two LS 2 profs this quarter?

It was mentioned in another thread that Engineering students could get Vista Business free. Would getting XP Home now and waiting for better Vista support before getting it through MSDNAA sound like a good idea?

is CS 1 that difficult? i'm just curious if adding it on top of cs 31, math32a, and chem20a would make my schedule much more challenging, however, being only 1 unit it seems like it would just be an easy addition. anyone have any info on what this class includes?

@Gamer5389

I think that's a pretty good idea. Vista still has some bugs that need to be worked out. Wait until a fully functional version without any bugs is out. You can get Vista Business through seasnet if you've made an account already.

Yes, that is a good idea. Also, HSSEAS will make Vista SP1 available for download when it comes out.

Anyone who took the course able to offer input?

CS 1 isn't meant to be difficult at all; it's basically supposed to give you some more insight on what careers you can pursue with a CS/CSE major. Instead of just coding in the future, the seminar helps to expand on topics like AI, cryptography, etc.

As for the actual work, we would have to do assignments called CPR (Calibrated Peer Review), which were basically writing and editing your peers' essays on assigned topics (usually dealing with the lecture from the previous week)).

Since last year was the first time CS 1 was offered, they tested on our class and I think the general opinion of the class was that we were given more work than we should have had. They'll probably change that for your year.

Bottom line: Class isn't hard. Most people get A's. Professor Cong is really nice. You should definitely add it to your current courses.

awesome, thanks for the info

Is Stats 110A required for CSE major? Tks
