UCLA Fall 2020 Transfer Thread

Yep I applied for micro as my major… what are your stats?

@cccstudent32

Hopefully tomorrow :slight_smile:

Hey! I applied for microbio/immunology/genetics with a 3.75 from a CSU and research experience in a microbio/bacterial genetics lab. I got into UCSC but got rejected from irvine/davis/berkely/riverside so i’m not really getting my hopes up

@dumplingsuwu

Hey! I applied Public Affairs as well. @cccstudent32 and I have been waiting for other applicants to pop up.

I found the major last spring and met with my counselor who also had not heard of it lol.

Did y’all get all of the major requirements done?

I had to add a bunch of classes last summer and fall but was able to finish in time. Took my CC’s version of the “highly recommended” SOCIOL 20 (Introduction to Sociological Research Methods) they listed on the transfer admissions guide, hope it helped my chances.

Hey!! I applied for molecular & cell bio, but my alternate major was microbio! I’m from a ccc, GPA 3.84, was a TA for molecular&cell bio, volunteer in a hospital, in a lot of honor societies, etc… but I got waitlisted at Berkeley and TAG’d in UCI. I haven’t done TAP, and didn’t receive the regent scholarship, so Idk how to feel anymore… UCLA is my dream school but I don’t want to get my hopes up anymore

@corsair341 Yes, I was able to finish all the requirements but the PA 80 Life Span development class done before this spring, but I’m currently taking it right now, so ill have all the requirements done before the fall transfer. I have finished all the other requirements last fall. Im hoping they accept more people maybe to grow it, but I just have no idea, the only info I have seen is just from their own website since, again, its still so new lol!

@corsair341 Im missing one and one is in progress because its not my major! I put it as my alternative for TAP on a whim. From my experience it seems that public affairs’s selection process is really random tho! My friend who is super qualified (only 1 B and REALLY good ECs) and done with all the major prep during fall got waitlisted last year :frowning:

I have the recommend four by fall done. But finishing up the last two this spring. Hopefully doesn’t hurt my chances too much.

From what my honors program counselor told me, they are expanding the program this year.

https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major

They admitted 22 and had 13 enroll the first transfer cohort year (2019) so hopefully that number will possibly double this year?? Who knows, I guess we’ll find out soon. Wishing y’all luck!

I didn’t think you were able to put it as an alternate because Public Policy major is not in Letters and Science, although applications for the major are reviewed by them… whats your first choice major?

hey everyone! I’ve been reading this thread for quite some time now and decided to also drop some of my stats, and also had a question.

major: philosophy
igetc: done
gpa: 4.00 (from my current CCC); 3.55 from my first CSU
applied: ucla and ucsd

when I was a freshman at the CSU I went to, I was a biology major and had done all stem classes and was still a bio major when I transferred to my current CC. however, I switched majors to philosophy last year during application season, so I did not have any of the philosophy pre-reqs listed as completed or in progress, but I did make sure to put that I was planning on taking them in the winter and spring semesters. as of right now, I’m currently working on the last 2 (out of the 3 required). so my question is do you guys think this hurts my chances of admission dramatically (the fact that I had bad timing switching majors and not having solid grades on the philosophy courses prior to applying)?

@Herbidot I hope i’m not just getting your hopes up but I feel good about my source! Best of luck to everyone.

@corsair341 woops I dont know then ;-; I asked my honors program advisor and she said it should be ok so I didnt think much. My first choice is poli sci!!

@cccstudent32

“To be competitive for admission, it is strongly recommended that students complete four (4) of the major preparation courses or equivalents, including PA 40 and PA 60, by the end of the fall prior to transfer”

“All additional major preparatory coursework, with the exception of PA 10 and PA 70, should be completed by the end of the spring prior to transfer.”

http://www.admission.ucla.edu/Prospect/Adm_tr/pamajor.htm

So long as you got PA40 and 60 in that 4 done by fall, you should be good!

@sacarey1999 I hope you’re right! Its hard focusing on studying for finals with all these pending decisions, lets get UCSB, UCSD, and UCLA over with tomorrow and be done with it all

Yup I did! Thanks for looking into it. Hope all us public affairs applicants get in. I have 3.84 and will have igetc done too by spring. Did my best, can only wait till tomorrow to see now.

Anyone a Communication Major?? What are your stats?

http://www.admission.ucla.edu/Prospect/Majors/lsmajor.htm

Yeah - the PP major is not listed under LS. I thought about doing that as well (using PolSci as my first choice) but was advised against it for that reason.

I would contact admissions at UCLA, or reach out to your CCC advisor to double check if you want and I hope you get in for PolSci!

Hey guys - any other communication majors? How are you guys feeling about decisions?

Guys I was super confident up until now, my parents just brought me into their room and gave me a pep talk in preparation for a possibility of what tomorrow will entail. I have a waitlist at Berkeley but idek if that means anything… UCLA is my number 1 by far, I mean look at my username lmao.
