Also any other linguistics majors here??
I’ve heard of this before, but I also know about a few people that have gotten accepted to both, so I really don’t think acceptances from either school are mutually exclusive, you know what I mean?
Is it true that UCLA draws emphasis on GPA versus anything else? I’ve been reading this on here a bit and I wanted to ask if there’s any validity to that claim.
Thanks a lot for your reply. Good luck! UCSB is already a good school.
does anyone here have any insight on how transfer admissions works for the school of art and architecture? Specifically the art major?
Thanks a lot for your reply. Very curious who succeeded in this kinds of transfer…
Thank you for taking the time to explain that! Good luck!
is it really? how do you know
From what I’ve consistently heard from SAA faculty, they look at your portfolio before anything else. If they like your work, they check with general admissions to make sure your GPA meets the minimum requirement (I think 3.0 or 3.2), and that you’ve completed one college-level math and two English classes with at least a B average.
The most important thing is your portfolio. If you have a strong supplemental application and they think you’re a good fit, then you’ll have a good chance. I even asked if essays were that important to them and they said not really, but still a good idea to have strong essays.
Its very portfolio based. I got rejected last year with a 3.98 and decent essays.
I know because I’ve been following admissions. Some years ago there was a rumor that both campuses communicate admissions between each other. I really don’t think they do. But what we know for sure is that the student profile that Berkeley wants is very different from UCLA. So almost an entirely different set of students get admitted.
it depends on how competitive your major is. ik someone who got into irvine from riverside.
Thank you sm! I’m oos so i’ve been struggling to get info for the art major specifically so I appreciate it!
I see. Sorry to hear about last year, but thank you for the insight. Are you applying as an art major again this year?
It can be done! My student is currently applying from UC Riverside. So far he has been accepted to Irvine and Berkeley. It will require a stellar GPA, fulfilling all requirements, well-written and thoughtful essays and a good reason for the transfer. However, priority is given to CC students (as it should be really.) At Berkeley, 90% of admitted transfers hail from CC.
Art history this time. And thank you! But honestly, I think it was a good thing in the end that I got rejected cause it pointed me in the right direction in the big picture. Good luck!
That’s an amazing choice, so glad that you were able to find your path! UCLA’s art history department seems amazing, I’m looking into art history as a possible double major. Good luck to you too!! Hoping we both receive good news this upcoming week
wow. Congrats to your student! If you apply for transfer to more than one UCs, e.g. both UCB and UCLA, it is hard to provide a good reason for transferring.
Yes. we applied for UCB
EECS. It could be very competitive.
True! He applied to schools that offered courses no longer available to him at UCR, which would have benefitted and he had set his heart on. If not for that, he would have stayed put as he certainly does appreciate Riverside.
