I thought Bruin Day was last month?
No public health major is something to deeply consider. UCLA is a great school if your child can pursue the major of their choice, not just settle on a major. Sure kids change major, but going in to college with an area/major of interest is always a plus. My son wanted to major in business admin. However, he didnāt get into Berkeley so he passed on UCI Honors Business Admin and went to UCLA, which has no business major. He is now on his fourth major. I always wonder if he had went to UCI would he have been more focused. Not a definitive statement about all kids, but just a thought I have as a parent.
Just got off the waitlist this morning!!! In-state (Bay-Area). 4.55 UW (rank: 1 of 304)
Which engineering major?
Sorry weighted
We are in the same boat, committed to Cal.
Im pro Cal but Im pretty sure she is switching.
Out of state students get little to no financial aid from the UCās so you should expect to pay close to full price. Did you run the Net Price Calculator for UCLA?
Undeclared
Yes, we did. I know we will not receive need based but hoping some reduction of costs with Alumni scholarship she applied for.
UCLA does have a public health major, itās new this year! (I work at UCLA and also in public health.) But you donāt have to major in public health to get a job in it. Bio stats, or sociology, or anything related to the social determinants of health is just as good.
Congrats to everyone who got off the waitlist!
Quick question - did you write a waitlist essay?
Congratulations to all admits from the Waitlist. I guess the number of admits constitutes a small wave. Best of luck with your decisions.
When does the UCLA waitlist generally close? Havenāt gotten my decision yet, so should I lose hope? Can it be a case where they havent looked at my application yet? or have all the application been read and they are now considering everyone to see which ones are the best?
UCLA closed their waitlist last year August 19 but it will vary from year to year. You will be notified if admitted or denied before they close the waitlist.
Do you think they have read all the applications yet? Do you know if they read all the applications first, then admit people off the waitlist based on who they like the most?
I have no special insight into how they determine whom they admit off the waitlist other than what they consider institutional priorities and which spots available after the SIR deadline. Since some OOS and International students have been admitted, most likely they have not reached their OOS/International enrollment target along with increasing their in-state student population. As I have stated before, there probably is some āmethod to the madnessā behind the scenes which determines whom is going to admitted first. Not knowing how many students have been waitlisted, it is difficult to determine if all the waitlist statements have been read.
Shocked!
My daughter got off the waitlist this morning too! Oooyee! OOS uw 4.0 GPA. Her school does not have a weighted GPA. We had committed to UCSD originally and liked it. Her major at UCLA is Anthropology. She wrote a long love letter to UCLA for the waitlist. Now we have to decide what we need to do.
May they be admitting in turn according to the major?
The College of Letters and Sciences does not consider major in their admission review so students are free to change majors once enrolled. Engineering/Nursing/Theater admit by major and as you can see so far, the majority of waitlist admits are in the College of L&S.
I learned that an international has just admitted to Computer eng. But no news about other eng majors
