UCLA Housing

The housing information will be coming out June 6th. While I was trying to figure out summer housing, I stumbled upon this little piece of information at AskHousing...

"For the upcoming 2008-2009 school year, a higher number of first-year students were admitted and have chosen to register at UCLA. In addition, the number of current residents who return to on-campus housing continues to increase. In light of increasing numbers of students who want to live on campus, there has been an increase demand for on-campus housing for the upcoming academic year.

To meet UCLA Housing's guarantee of providing housing to all incoming freshmen and transfer students who request it and meet the stated deadlines, we will be offering most new students some type of a triple room accommodation, even though this may not be one of their first choices."

Damn.

That sucks :( I wanted to have a double room.

well, hopefully we'll get good news.

for summer, I'll be in a triple dorm in Reiber Hall (no AC! yay!) with a communal bathroom... maybe i'll just get used to it? lol.

I was in a triple at UCI for a while. Space-wise it was alright, but my two roommates were psychos and I honestly think that housing matched them up and threw me in as the fourth wheel, if you know what I mean. Also, my bunk was less than two feet from the ceiling. I couldn't sit up on it. Lol oh lordy.

I just hope that I get a plaza at UCLA. If I get that, I'll be happy. And meet new people.

Yeah, I put down Plaza as my first choice. Double w/private bath, double w/shared bath, triples, singles, were my choices...Damn...really wanted that double.

edit: wait wait wait, we'll have housing information by June 6th???/

yeah! june 6th, they'll tell us who we're living with.

twitchyhamster -- that sounds awful, lol, and slightly funny! i've heard a lot of awful stories about triple dorms but a lot of good ones about double. i guess that 3rd person just ****es everyone off (not you, the crazy people, i'm sure).

i want plaza, out of all the plazas i would prefer reiber vista. i put double private first, then i put double shared. then i went on to the suites. i would rather live in a triple on campus than live off campus in a double.

@leper: Yeah it was a trip. One of the girls would start crying randomly on occasion and the other would have these loud fights with her boyfriend on Skype until one or two in the morning. Every. Night. I'm serious about this. But it sure taught me a lesson in tolerance, let me tell you. And sleeping through noise. Ugh. My advice is bring earplugs and eye-covers with you if you're a light sleeper like I am.

Oh and also just because: I took a tour through UCLA housing the other day and there's this one residence hall that's the oldest in the school. They had a triple arrangement in there and oh my gawd...it was so cramped I think the fire marshal would freak. That...I do not want. It was connected to De Neve, forget the name of it. knocks of wood

Is it possible to submit for housing and bail later on?

yeah, you don't have to accept their housing offer. you just basically wasted $30, but yeah... no obligation to follow through.

Unless you're a freshman at UCSD. I believe freshman at SD must live on campus for the first two years... this was the case for my brother (2001), at least. Along with my three friends that went there 2006.

living in triples shouldn't be too bad...

as long as one of them doesn't snore it should be fine

where did u see this?

the housing notification thing?

go to AskHousing on housing.ucla.edu

i typed in transfer dorms in the search bar and all this stuff popped up.

when do they send you a "housing offer", I submitted my housing app and gave them 30 bucks like 2 days ago...

You would think for as much $$$ as it costs to live there that they would have A/C in the buildings.

they told me to bring a fan, lol, as it "may be of help" at one point or another.

is it too late to update apps and request living with a friend?

naw, i don't think so. you can do it today and by the end of tomorrow, it should be updated.

in fact, i just changed my application. for some reason i listed apartment studio as an option, but that means i'll be off campus.

I know someone who was applying for single student transfer, apartments (off campus then). They will most likely be placed in Hiligard, I asked transfer rep. I checked the floor plan for Hiligard...

there is this one room with over 5 beds it in! It looks like some kind of a holding cell! Never go for Hiligard, that's all I can say! lol

i went to a friend's dorm in ucla last week in DeNeve, I believe? And there are A/C in the suites.

and how do u update your application?

just go to myUCLA and click "housing application"

you'll see from there.

also De Neve is one of the newer dorms, so it has A/C.

De Neve is a little commune of several different residential buildings. There's one residence hall connected to it that is the oldest, has no A/C, and is really cramped up when tripled. That's the one I saw.
