UCLA Is Buying a Campus in Rancho Palos Verdes

As reported by the Los Angeles Times, “in a milestone move to expand enrollment at the nation’s most popular university by creating a satellite campus, UCLA announced Tuesday that it is buying two large properties owned by Marymount California University, a small Catholic institution in Rancho Palos Verdes that closed its doors last month.”

How do you feel about this news? Are you excited about the new campus being added?

Beautiful location! Could be a great hub for marine and environmental sciences! I’ll be interested to see how UCLA manages the new locations.

I think it’s great. UCLA and Cal have grown their enrollment without building enough infrastructure to support the growth. I hope we see a lot more of this.

I posted this in the other thread where it was mentioned. Marymount is too far from UCLA to house undergrads. As was mentioned above, it will likely be used for graduate work in environmental and marine sciences. UCLA and USC are both involved with marine research at Alta Sea which is close to the new site.

Here is a link to the University statement instead of an article that is behind a paywall.

I was poking around on Google Maps and noticed that the two Marymount sites now say UCLA South Bay Suites and UCLA Palos Verdes Campus.
