Hi,
I am an international freshmen in UCLA. I came to US from Korea 7 years ago, when I was 11. I got 790 on SAT II Korean. I can speak fluently in Korean, and viscerally know all the grammar rules and stuff (Korean is my 1st language). The problem is that I haven’t written any Korean essays in 7 years. I message my parents and other Korean acquaintances in Korean language. But I haven’t actually written any paragraphs or arguments or essays in Korean. I can read/speak/hear well in Korean.
I know that the on-site UCLA Korean Placement Test involves writing. Here are my questions:
- Do you believe I need to study for UCLA Korean Placement Test’s writing part?
- What kind of writing questions are there, and what is the structure of writing test like? Are the questions generic like SAT Writing test, or do you have to read something in Korean and analyze it? For example, what were you asked to write about, how much time were you given, and how much were you expected to (and actually) write?
- I’m much less concerned about the speaking part, but what’s the speaking part like?
- I am thinking that using “–이다,” “–다” would be most appropriate for ending sentences in the writing test. Do you agree, or should I choose difference sentence endings?
Thanks. I’m pretty sure I got 100% on the online part of the test, if this helps at all.
