UCLA Materials Engineering vs. UCSD Bioengineering

Sigh, tough choice. Materials engineering was my second choice major so I might try to switch to bioengineering if I decide to attend UCLA <- is it easy to switch engineering majors?

The ultimate question: where should I go? UCLA Materials Engineering (or possible bioengineering later on) or UCSD Bioengineering.

UCSD is ranked #3 or something for undergraduate bioengineering which is really impressive. UCLA, however, seems far more attractive as a whole, but both their undergraduate materials and bioengineering departments aren't even ranked.

why did you apply for material in the first place? but anyway i heard its actually not too hard to switch majors as long as its not impacted... i think the impacted majors for engineering is mechanical and CS...

BioE is an impacted major. Materials is one of the weaker engineering programs within HSSEAS. I would choose UCSD BioE.

MAE is not impacted.

kick53rv3, I didn't get my first choice major (bioengineering) at UCLA :</p>

Btw, I'll be doing Business or Law school for graduate studies, if that makes any difference in helping me decide LA vs SD.

i don't think engineers go to business/ law school :) but i think our business program should be better than SD's...

UCSD BioE > UCLA BioE

But why engineering if you're not planning on doing it as a career? Is it worth it? I mean engineering can be a lot of work, and your GPA can suffer if you're not dedicated to it. Just wondering.

^ Well I just want a background in engineering for undergrad and then do business or something for grad. Because business is kinda useless without having a background in something else first.

Just wondering what was your final decision? My son is going through the same route now…

MAE is impacted now
