I am having an extremely difficult time in choosing between the two. I live only 25 min. away from UCLA and my sister also goes there. And I'm majoring in Psychology and Cognitive Science because I'm planning to become a lawyer. UCLA has an amazing psychology program, but Berkeley is known for its law school. But I'm also really interested in nutrition and only Berkeley offers that major.

Take your time deciding. Visit both schools, talk to as many people as you can in the different departments you are interested in, and investigate housing availability and social activities. Don't rush yourself, pick what will work best for you.

My son took two weeks to finally decide between Berkeley and UCLA. He is very happy with the decision that he eventually made.

Going to Berkeley undergrad has little, if any, connection with Berkeley law school, so look to your undergraduate major preferences and bear in mind that undergraduates frequently select a different major than their preference at the time of college application.

It should also be pointed out (though as it was said, this has almost no bearing on undergrad) that UCLA is ALSO known for its law school.

Although Cal is a bit better known in acadmics, UCLA's academics are top notch as well. I would choose UCLA over Cal any day, bc it provdes amazing social life, weather, and attractive student body that Cal can't offer.

It's really all about fit. If you want to stay close to home for college, go to UCLA. However, if you want to get away from your parents and SoCal (like myself!), Berkeley may be the better option. Keep in mind that law school admissions are essentially determined by your GPA and LSAT...while both schools are difficult Berkeley is notorious for its academic rigor.

UCLA is really great for Psych with the NeuroPsychiatric Institute co-located there a five minute walk from the main campus. Not sure how Berkeley's Psych department is. Anyone?

UCLA's graduate program in Psych is top 7 or 8 in the country, so that makes for great research opporunities if you are proactive in pursuing that.

True that, but like just about every program, Berkeley will be top five in the country and UCLA will be top fifteen. Just doesn't pay to be the "Southern Branch" of the University of California :)

Don't be a twig. Go to the original flagship campus of the University of California.

Since you live in Socal, maybe you want to get away. You won't need a car at Cal...access directly from airport to campus via BART.

Football games are on campus instead of 25 miles away.

Berkeley is also much more prestigious.
